The training began with a tour of the facilities such as the Mechatronics Lab and the Siemens Training Centre the students will have access to during their stay at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
We had the opening ceremony where the VC Prof Kioni officially launched the training event and urged the students to pursue their training with the larger picture of improving their lives using their acquired skills.
Prof Jean Bosco then shortly introduced the TVET trainees ad trainers to what the aim of the WorldSkills Mechatronics Competition is.
Faith Langat representative of WorldSkills Kenya further informed the attendees of the mission and vision of the WorldSkills Organization for the youth.
STUDENTS TRAINING
Training has began with the students being introduced to PLCs and software for programming and simulating PLC programs such as PLC SIM and TIA(Total Integrated Automation) Portal.

The trainees were given the basic Siemens Level 1 training which consisted of learning all the components of a Mechatronics System namely;
Sensors and actuators
Electro-pneumatics and electro-hydraulics
Controllers
Electro-mechanical transmission systems
PLC programming
Trouble-shooting
Dr. Kipkirui Lang'at officially launched the competition after welcoming and introductory remarks by WorldSkills Mechatronics Expert Prof. Bosco followed by speeches from Prof. E. Okoth Ogur - WorlSkills Kenya Delegate, Mr. Muhammad Hassan - Representative of TVET Principals and Prof. Esther N Magiri - Deputy Vice Chancellor DeKUT.

The stations were let to work individually to allow reduce the task-load for students to work on
There was a brief photo session of everyone conducted by the Public Relations Office of DeKUT.
The competitors were given their instructions and begun interacting with the machines ad were later judged to eliminate some teams and determine the next stage's competitors.
The results for day 1 were as shown and the eliminated teams were the bottom four from TVET institutions and the bottom three from DeKUT. The rest proceeded to the next stage.
The six TVET proceeding teams met on the second day and were each given a station to perform its tasks.
The tasks were to;
Wire the selected inputs ad outputs to the PLC
Program a PLC S7-1200 series controller.
Day 3 of the competition included the students working to program the station, wiring and configure a HMI(Human Machine Interface). The Deputy Vice Chancellor also made a visit to the competition grounds to see the progress.
