The WHA brings together university professors, college and community college instructors, secondary school teachers, graduate students, and independent scholars in a collegial camaraderie rarely found in more narrowly focused academic and professional societies. Its mission remains the advancement of scholarship and teaching within transnational, transregional, and transcultural perspectives, designed to prepare students and the public for an increasingly interdependent world.

The Covid-19 pandemic has irrevocably changed teaching and learning and will have a lasting effect on how we practice historical scholarship. What does that mean for you? How have your colleagues responded? What insights, tips, and new questions have emerged in our recent collective experience that can shape world history moving forward? Join your friends and colleagues in the World History Association for a series of online gatherings designed to spark your curiosity, develop debate, and deepen your engagement with the field.

World History Connected (ISSN 1931-8642), , has been an affiliate of the World History Association since 2003. While the submission of individual articles on any topic germane to world history are welcome at any time, the journal also invites papers suitable for a Forum, a set of 4 to 8 curated articles showcasing innovative research and the scholarship of teaching in the interdisciplinary field of world history.

Even with these issues, world history instructors should not ignore LLMs as these tools produce content at such speed and with such coherence that even high failures rates will not deter students from exploring their usage. More importantly, students will face competition from LLMs in the jobs, which suggests an ethical obligation for instructors to prepare students for LLMs at work. This Forum invites articles that explore the ethics of AI usage in the world history classroom. Topics might include instruction on history of technology, labor, colonialism, language, disability, or the environment and the concomitant ethical issues that attend such histories. As well, the Forum invites articles that model novel world history pedagogies attending to LLMs grounded in the ethics of the discipline of history, such as how to evaluate credible sources, how to guide students towards productive uses of LLMs, how to encourage academic integrity in source usage and citations, or how to interrogate LLMs output for falsehoods as a stepping stone to broader understanding of how history is created.

The World History Association encourages proposals for sessions and papers presenting original research and pedagogical techniques within the overarching theme of Currents as well as other topics of interest to world historians. We welcome topics involving the widest possible range of geographic locales.

The Southeast World History Association (SEWHA) is a regional affiliate of the World History Association, serving the Southeastern United States. SEWHA promotes the study of World History that transcends national, regional, and continental boundaries. Participants from all regions of the United States and the world are invited to attend. Each competitor will submit an essay that addresses one of the following topics and discuss how it relates to you personally and to World History: Your view of a family story related to a historical event or your personal family cultural background, or an issue of personal relevance or specific regional history/knowledge, such as "My ancestor walked with Abraham Lincoln from Illinois to fight in the Black Hawk War of 1832."

World History Bulletin therefore invites contributions to a thematic issue on democratizing, diversifying, and decolonizing the world history classroom. We are especially interested in articles that share fresh research or historiographical perspectives which explore the questions of diversifying and decolonizing world history; present innovative teaching at all levels that employs techniques related to democratizing, diversifying, and decolonizing world history themes; or explore the connection between student engagement and world history as realized through the diversification and decolonization of a particular curriculum, topic, or subject matter. We also welcome short interviews with designers, artists, writers, and scholars and small roundtables on a book, film, or other work.

Scholars from around the world benefited directly from scholarships to the 32nd Annual WHA Conference, Pittsburgh 2023. They include Dr. Peter Adebayo and Dr. Antonino Cris (World Scholar Travel Fund).

Our mission is to promote activities which raise awareness about world history and engage scholars, teachers, and students in this field of study. To fulfill this duty to our members, we need your support.

The World History Association has organized a conference every year since 1992, bringing together academic historians, college instructors, and secondary school teachers of world history, as well as occasional symposia on special topics. Recent conference locations have included Puerto Rico, Ghent and Bilbao, as well as a number of American cities, like Boston; programs from some past conferences and symposia are available for download. The next WHA annual conference will be in Pittsburgh, USA from June 22 - 24, 2023.

The WHA/ Student Paper Prizes are awarded for the best undergraduate and best graduate-level world history papers composed in the academic year. The deadline for submissions has been extended through May 15, 2023.

The World History Connected (WHC) Book Prize recognizes publications of outstanding value to both research and teaching in the field of world history. This prize is funded through the generosity of Professor Emeritus and former WHA President Marc Jason Gilbert. The submission deadline is April 1 of each year. AP World History: Modern is an introductory college-level modern world history course. Students cultivate their understanding of world history from c. 1200 CE to the present through analyzing historical sources and learning to make connections and craft historical arguments as they explore concepts like humans and the environment, cultural developments and interactions, governance, economic systems, social interactions and organization, and technology and innovation.

Our program distinguishes itself with internship rotations that allow you to apply your knowledge and training in history to practice in the community. You have the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience in fields such as:

With the approval of your advisor and the program director, you may complete an interdisciplinary area of concentration in the complementary fields of public history, library and information science, museum administration, or education. You may also use these credits to take additional history electives in a thematic or regional concentration.

Unique to our program is the ability to combine a research specialization with teaching, public history, or other appropriate professional applications in the dissertation. We encourage a variety of original, high-quality dissertation formats, including: a digital media project; a museum exhibit and catalog; an archival project and guide; a website; a curriculum guide; and an oral history project. While the format of the project is flexible, we expect the dissertation to provide original in-depth research and demonstrate mastery of the field.
