WordVia ("the app", "we", "us") is a reading app for learning languages. This policy explains what data the app handles, what leaves your device, and who receives it.
We do not require an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number, and we do not sell or rent any data to anyone.
The app stores the following only in its private storage on your device:
books and documents you import, your reading position, bookmarks, notes and highlights;
your personal dictionary and saved words;
reading statistics and training progress (the review schedule of your saved words);
the training exercises the app receives from the WordVia server;
app settings and preferences.
Parts of this content are sent off your device only in the cases described in the next section.
Deleting the app removes all of this data. We have no copy of it and cannot restore it.
When you select text and request a translation, that selected text is sent to the translation provider you have chosen in settings, so it can return a translation:

Only the selected fragment is sent, together with the source and target language. The rest of the book, the file itself, and your other data are not sent. Translation requests go directly from your device to the chosen provider; they do not pass through the WordVia server, and we do not store their text.
If you enable offline translation, translation is performed on your device using downloaded language models, and no text is sent to any translation provider.
If you use read-aloud, the text being read is passed to the speech engine provided by your operating system (Apple or Google). Depending on the voice you have selected in your system settings, that engine may process the text on the device or on the vendor's servers, under the vendor's own privacy policy.
The app has its own server, the WordVia server, hosted on Google Cloud Run (Google). The server is used only for the training exercises "fill in the blank", "build the sentence" and "repeat the sentence".
To create these exercises for words saved in your dictionary, the app sends the server:
the saved word and its translation;
the sentence from the book in which you saved the word;
the title of that book;
the source and target language codes.
No name, email address, account or device identifier is sent with this content.
The server passes this content to the Gemini API, Google's language-model service, which writes the exercise sentences. The server returns the exercises to the app, and the app stores them on your device. The server does not store the content of these requests, and its own logs contain no words or sentences. Google processes this content under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Google Cloud keeps standard request logs for the server: the time of each request, the request path, the response status, your device's IP address and the app's user-agent string. These logs are kept for 30 days.
Every request to the server carries a Firebase App Check token (Google). Your operating system's attestation service — Apple DeviceCheck on iOS, Google Play Integrity on Android — confirms that the request comes from the genuine app on a real device. The token carries no personal data.
The training exercises "say the word" and "repeat the sentence" use your operating system's speech-recognition service (Apple on iOS, Google on Android). That service may process your voice on the device or on the vendor's servers, under the vendor's own privacy policy.
The app asks for permission to use the microphone and speech recognition only for these exercises. The app itself does not record, store or send audio. If you do not grant the permission, these exercises are not offered.
WordVia Premium is an auto-renewing subscription, billed yearly or monthly. Payment is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); the app never receives your payment card details.
To check whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.). RevenueCat receives:
a random anonymous user identifier created by the RevenueCat SDK built into the app;
purchase and subscription details from the store: product, price, currency, purchase and renewal dates, and store transaction identifiers;
technical data such as platform, operating system version, app version and country.

To understand how the app is used and to fix crashes, we use:
Firebase Analytics (Google) — anonymous usage events, such as which screens are opened and which features are used, together with your subscription status (free or premium);
Sentry — error and crash diagnostics.
These services receive technical information: device model, operating system version, app version, language and region, a random installation identifier, and — in the case of a crash — the technical state of the app at the moment of failure. They do not receive the content of your books, your notes, your dictionary, or the text you translate.

When the app starts, it downloads its configuration from Firebase Remote Config (Google). For this, it uses the Firebase installation identifier, a random identifier of the app installation. See the Firebase privacy information.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
The app has no account and no server-side profile. Apart from the server request logs described above, which are kept for 30 days, all data under our control lives on your device, and you can erase it at any time by deleting the app. For data held by the third parties listed above, please refer to their policies, which describe how to exercise your rights under GDPR, CCPA and similar laws.
We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
