Minimum Age Requirement: Volunteers must have completed the 6th grade the year before summer camp begins. Teens may serve in junior roles under adult supervision.
Background Screening: Volunteers 18 years and older must complete and pass a criminal background check prior to serving. This helps ensure a safe environment for children and complies with child protection laws.
Training Completion: Volunteers must attend mandatory orientation and training sessions to be equipped with knowledge about emergency procedures, behavior management, daily routines, and ministry expectations.
Christian Character: Volunteers are expected to live in a way that reflects Christian values, including respect for others, honesty, humility, kindness, and a servant’s heart. They should be able to positively influence the spiritual atmosphere of the camp.
Volunteer Application: Each prospective volunteer must complete an application form that includes personal information, emergency contacts, availability, and areas of interest.
Reference Check: Youth and adult volunteers may be asked to provide at least one character reference, especially if they have not previously served with Word Tabernacle Church.
Interview (if applicable): For leadership or high-responsibility roles (e.g., teaching electives, managing large groups), an interview may be conducted to assess readiness and fit.
Background Checks: Conducted confidentially and used only for screening purposes. Volunteers with offenses related to child safety, abuse, or violence will not be allowed to serve.
Camper Safety and Supervision: Volunteers should never be alone with a camper. All interactions must be visible and/or in groups. Follow the "two-adult rule" when possible.
Punctuality and Consistency: Volunteers must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled shift and stay through the duration unless otherwise arranged with a camp leader.
Engagement: Volunteers are expected to actively participate in all aspects of the day—including group activities, worship, and clean-up—and to avoid distractions such as frequent phone use.
Professionalism: Volunteers represent the church and the camp program. Use polite, respectful language, and resolve any conflict calmly and appropriately.
Dress Code: Wear clean, modest, and comfortable clothing appropriate for active play. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Team Oversight: Volunteers will be assigned to a team leader or staff member who will check in daily, provide support, and offer coaching.
Feedback: Volunteers will receive feedback on their service. Continued growth and improvement are encouraged.
Dismissal Grounds: Volunteers may be dismissed for:
Repeated tardiness or absences without notice
Failure to follow camp safety protocols
Use of inappropriate language or behavior
Not responding to feedback and development
Any action deemed harmful to the spiritual, emotional, or physical safety of others
