Creating A Simple Product In WooCommerce

Simple Products in WooCommerce have no variations for the customer to choose from.

LEFT COLUMN

Product Name

Enter the Product Name & click Publish to save.

Doing this will generate the URL for this product. The URL is the address people use to locate this product page in a web browser.

Example: https://www.mywebsite.com.au/product/productname

Note: Every page on your website requires a unique URL to avoid page display issues.

If need be, you can edit the URL by clicking Edit.

Product Description

Add your long product description in the first window.

Product Description

Add your long product description in the first window. The long product description needs the following.

• 150 words.
• Should include the keyword phrase in the first sentence and one instance of the keyword phrase needs to be made bold.
• Write well written descriptive copy and include variations on the keyword phrase that people might use to search for your product.

Scroll down to the Product Data section.

Set the Product data to be: Variable Product.

General Tab

Regular Price: Enter the price without GST.

Sale Price: enter the sale price without GST.

Tax Status: Taxable or None as required.

Tax class: Standard or Zero Rate as required.

Inventory Tab

SKU: Enter your product SKU code.

Manage Stock: Enable to manage stock quantities.

Stock Quantity: Enter the stock amount you have.

Allow Backorders: Do not allow.

Stock Status: In Stock.

Sold Individually: Enable if only one product can be bought in a single order.

Shipping

You only need to enter product weight and dimensions if we are using these for our shipping method.

Most customers use a Flat Rate fee, followed by Free Shipping if spend over X amount.

This means you can ignore Weight & Dimensions.

Shipping class: Ignore.

Linked Products

Link any other relevant products that you think the customer would be interested in when buying this product.

Up-sells: Recommend a better more expensive product.

Cross-sells: Recommend other products they would be interested in.

To add an Up-Sell or Cross-Sell product simply start typing it's name and you will see a list of matching products.

Attributes Tab

Attributes for simple products are used to provide more product information such as specifications such as:

• Ingredients: Essential Oil, Eucalytpus Extract
• Weight: 20kg
• Etc...

Most product attributes are used more than once. This means it's better to create a Global Attribute we can use on any product again and again.

Global Attributes need to be created before adding a new product.

1. Click the Attributes tab.
2. From the Custom Product Attribute select the attribute you want and click Add.
3. The attribute is now added to the product.
4. When adding the values, separate the values with a pipe icon. Example: Essential Oils|Eucalyptus Extract
5. Visible On The Product Page: Check

Advanced Tab

Purchase note: Enter an optional note to send to customer after purchase.

Menu order: Order the position of the product within the category it is saved to.

Enable product reviews: Yes/No.

Extra Tab

Under the Extra Tab you can add custom bubble text or product video. Most website owners can ignore this tab.

Product Short Description

A products short description is placed near the price.

If you choose to write a short description keep it to around 40 words max.

Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO controls the product page SEO settings.

Click Edit Snippet.

SEO Title: Enter a browser page title no longer than 70 characters. Make sure to include the keyword phrase people would use to find this product.

Slug: Update the slug (URL) if you want to - in most cases you don’t need to touch this. Note: Each page must have its own unique URL or it will cause conflicts.

Meta Description: Add a short description no longer than 165 characters. Ensure the description includes the keyword phrase. This description will be used by Google when displaying information about this page in a search result.

Focus Keyword: Add the focus keyword for this product.
