Project today was to play with inks and the group produced some beautifully coloured abstracts. We were all outside of our comfort zone and much enjoyed the challenge
We had fun today with a project sketching portraits and caricatures of each other. We are not sure that everyone was completely recognisable from the sketches but found it amazing how small characteristics made a likeness.
Sunrise project kept us busy with complementary colours - oranges and blues.
The project this month was to paint kingfishers in all of their multicoloured glory.
An appropriately seasonal project this month - spring flowers.
A very haunting project today - trees in the mist. A apt project for the cold and frosty weather
A seasonal project today ... pumpkins and gourds. We sat in 4 groups with a collection of gourds and pumpkins as our still life subjects. As you can tell, we had some testing subjects!
Our project today was for the 12 artists to recreate van Gogh's Wheat Field and Cypress Trees by each painting 2 squares without sight of the rest of the painting until constructed at the end. We all channelled our inner Vincent van Gogh and had some fun emulating him ... although the inset photo of some of the group at work does rather imply some serious work at hand.
Today's project was "Pet Portraits"
However, we decided that we would all paint and/or sketch from the same monochrome reference image.
We all enjoyed the exercise and particularly enjoyed inventing the technicolour!
Today's project was to sketch or paint in the style of the one of the great masters.
We used a pack of cards of famous paintings and each chose one - as you can see they ranged from van Gogh to Jackson Pollock with van Eyke, Turner, Klimt, Gauguin, Serat, Vermeer, Monet, Magritte and de Vinci in between.
We all enjoyed the challenge and learnt a bit more about the great artists in the process - well done all!
This project involved life drawing with our sitters Jane and Les.
The difficult part was that we could only use our non-dominant hand to sketch with!
We loved the project and although likeness was sometimes a bit difficult to arrive at in the short 15 minute poses, we really enjoyed the challenge - well done all!
Friday 13 May 2023
We were set a task to create a monochrome painting of trees (b/w image provided).
The idea being that we used tone only and no outlines.
The project was much enjoyed by all and what a beautiful forest of trees we ended up with!
It's interesting that the majority of us chose a cool colour - lots of blues and greens.
