January 2024 Meeting Minutes
January 2024 Meeting
WONA President Daphna Woolfe kicked off the January 22, 2024 meeting at the Cypress Senior Center. The agenda included overviews on the Stevens Creek Corridor Study, the San Jose Neighborhood Watch Program, District 1 and WONA developer updates.
WONA is just getting plans started for the new year, and updates on events and other programs will be available soon.
Stevens Creek Corridor Vision Study
The Stevens Creek Corridor Vision study is a commmunity engagement project that started just over a year ago. The study is looking at the vision of Stevens Creek Blvd from Cupertino to San Jose. The study will gather input from community members on challenges and opportunities they see on the corridor. Those insights will be used to develop a vision for the corridor in addition to steps to reach that vision.
Specifically, the study is looking at transportation investment which includes different modalities, including traffic, pedestrians, bicycles and new technology. The study will result with an implementation plan.
They have an extensive project team that include neighborhood representatives that regularly meet and provide feedback.
They are currently in the vision development phase.
So far, priorities include safety, traffic flow, and red light cameras with more to come.
Feedback from WONA residents included keeping traffic out of our neighborhoods coming from Stevens Creek, focusing on safety, and fix current traffic problems first

District 1 - Rosemary Kamei
If you have any issues, please remember to put it in the 311 app, and email the D1 office so they can follow up. Be sure to include the tracking number.
District 1 met with DOT and members of WONA prior to the holidays to try to solve some of the traffic congestion issues at Stevens Creek and Winchester Blvd, and we didn't quite get the desired result. More work to do to have better solutions for next year.
WONA neighbors expressed their frustration and concerns with the recent Olin Hotel vote at city council, which approved the hotel to proceed, and the lack of resolution with the new park wall with neighbors and Pulte. WONA will assign new board members to represent those two projects so we can better work towards a resolution.
San Jose Neighborhood Watch Program
Marta Dominguez with the SJ Police Dept Crime Prevention Unit spoke about the Neighborhood Watch program.
The goal of the crime prevention unit is to be a liaison between the police department and the community. They sponsor events such as Coffee with a Cop, and other events to educate the community, schools, churches, businesses, etc.
The Neighborhood Watch Program is a partnership with the police and community to facilitate neighbors looking out for each other. It is usually done on a street with about 20-30 neighbors.
If neighbors are interested in creating a Neighborhood Watch program, police captains will come to the neighborhood to speak about crime prevention. If you're interested in hosting a neighborhood watch program for your street, please contact sjpdcpu@sanjoseca.gov.
If 70% of neighbors attend the meeting, the street will receive a neighborhood watch street sign.
