The WONA Cat Club is a group of Winchester Orchard neighbors working together to care for our community cats. Our goal is to keep the cat population healthy and under control through TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) and fostering.
In recent years, our neighborhood has seen a surge in un-fixed cats—often called community cats because they live outdoors and may be stray or feral. This started when cats from the Winchester Ranch mobile home park spread into nearby streets after the park closed. The problem grew during COVID, when spay/neuter and TNR services were shut down. Today, there are hundreds of community cats in our neighborhood, many still un-fixed. Without help, the situation will continue to grow.
Thanks to several dedicated neighbors, many cats have already been cared for through TNR. Here’s how it works:
1. Cats are trapped using a safe, humane trap.
2. They are taken to a shelter or nonprofit clinic to be spayed/neutered. Their ear is clipped to show they’ve been fixed.
3. They are returned to their home territory.
How you can help:
🐾 Experienced Trappers – Join our WONA Cat Club text thread to help with TNR efforts.
🐾 Residents with Cats Nearby – Let us know if you see un-fixed cats in your area. If WONA helps trap them, we ask that you agree to have them returned to your neighborhood after surgery.
🐾 Fostering – Sometimes we need help fostering kittens so they can be socialized and adopted. Fostering is done through the San José Animal Care Center and includes training and support.
🐾 Organizers & Helpers – We need volunteers to help schedule spay/neuter appointments, coordinate trapping, and manage supplies.
🐾 Cat Food Donations – Want to help but can’t volunteer? Food donations are always welcome and will be shared with neighbors caring for cat colonies.
