Meet Tammi.

This badass babe is the Ontario editor for https://www.highcanada.net/ and also makes incredible infusions with the aid of plant magic.

Hardworking relatable women are hard to come by in the industry and Tammi is one of the most down to earth ladys' I know.

I appreciate her outlook and positive demeanor when it comes to the cannabis industry. I had the pleasure of asking Tammi a few questions about her cannabis experiences and roles in the industry.

1. Tell us about your first cannabis experience?

I was 15 years old and had just moved back to Hamilton. Was walking through the football field of the highschool I was going to attend in the Fall and there was a group of boys sitting on a bench smoking joints. They called out to me as I was walking by, and so I stopped to chat (as I was open to meeting new people since I was starting school soon) and they asked me where I was from and one of the boys offered me a joint. I wanted to look cool of course so I took it....had a few puffs (yes i inhaled) and then once my little buzz kicked in I made up an excuse that I had to get home and went on my way..........to the corner store for Sour Cream & Onion chips and a Skor bar hahahaha Side Note: Stayed friends with those boys to this day!

What inspired you to get into the cannabis industry?

I have always consumed and baked with cannabis, but it wasn't until 2015 after I lost my partner Brad to a heart attack, that I decided I needed something to focus on. If there's one thing I truly learned from that chapter of my life, was that I should go for what I want and not be afraid of what people think! And so it seemed quite natural to start pursuing cannabis seriously with my edibles as word in Parliament was legalization was in the 5year plan. I hit the ground running with markets in Toronto with my partner Chantel and for the next year we worked every market and event that would have us which led us to Smoke Signals Indigenous Cannabis Cup, where I met the High! Canada Team and shortly thereafter joined them and then became Ontario Editor. (Little known Tammi fact, my first round of college I went for Business and Publishing to start my own Womens Magazine....however, the internet became a thing and print lost its foothold. I took the safe choice and went back to school for Accounting, putting my magazine dreams on the backburner)

Can you share with us your favourite articles you've written?

My favourite articles from High! Canada, have to be all the pre-legalization things I covered. It was like the Wild West of Weed and it was like a magical dreamland. My hometown of Hamilton had over 100 dispensaries at one time and the events, parties, and markets were weekly. Everyone was excited about what legalization could look like and there was a true sense of Community. It's a feeling like no other I've experience since legalization. Gage Cannabis also set the bar high in my mind as to what LP operations might look like going forward with Craft grows. So, the articles written during that time were indeed my favourite.

That being said, Habitat Life in BC with an innovative approach to vertical growing and aquaponics, to The House of Sinse in Orange Hill Negril, and ACMPR Assistance, Renfrew County made my cannabis dreams come true! Visits I will never forget and are sure to return to!

Who inspires you in the cannabis industry?

There's no specific Who that inspire me per se, it's the movement itself and all the working parts that really get me going.

I get a lot of inspiration from the people that came before legalization and the information and skills that have been passed along the generations. All those who went to prison for things we openly do without worry now, those people are the inspiration for us to right those wrongs and rewrite the terms and conditions globally regarding all things cannabis!

I know you bake magical edibles, What's your favourite thing to make!? How do edibles help you and others?

Oooooh the big question! I have so many favourites, but by far the most satisfying thing are cakes! Whether they are layered and smothered in buttercream, or a heavy sour cream or pound cake with fresh fruits and bacon , they are pretty awesome to make.

As far as helping myself and others, I find baking and cooking very therapeutic for all life situations and that's how it helps me. As for others, it varies. I bake for those in end-of-life care who just need to be comfortable before they pass, for the elderly who don't want to be on opioids, for people with sleep, appetite, and pain issues. That being said, I also bake for those who just want to have a great time. A lot of my customers don't drink alcohol and I have helped introduce safe and fun ways to consume cannabis and have a good time through events and private parties.
