What is your name and your job title?
Alexandra Latona, San Diego Coast District Interpretation and Education Manager
How long have you been in this role?
3 years
How did you get into this line of work?
My background is in public history and non-profit education. I’ve had the pleasure of working in museums, science centers, and most recently at UC Irvine before joining Parks. I was excited to join the San Diego Education team as it blends my experience in both history and ocean and natural sciences.
What is your “why” for doing this job?
I love connecting people to Parks! Although much of my work is behind the scenes, I enjoy finding ways to increase access by supporting the amazing work of the interpretation team.
Who inspires you/who are some of your role models?
I’m inspired by the incredible work done by interpreters across the state, particularly in the San Diego Coast District. The collaborations with tribal communities, initiatives like the Adventure Pass Program to increase access, and inspiring interpretive programs (both in-person and via Zoom through PORTS) are just a few of the things that motivate me every day.
