The inaugural meeting of Women in Network Science (WiNS) was hosted at the Network Science Institute at Northeastern on March 6, 2018 in conjunction with CompleNet 2018 conference. The event was attended by over 30 women, including graduate students, junior and senior academics and scholars. An open format provided an informal setting for the community to gather, identify shared objectives and concerns, and discuss strategies to improve employment, and career advancement of women in Network Science. Some of the topics discussed included how we can leverage professional and social contacts among its members to stimulate opportunities for women, and how to utilize positions of leadership to increase participation of women in academic conferences, funding panels and hiring committees.
