The Western North Carolina Urban Forest Council was formed in September 2025 to provide science-based data, forest management-based practices and community forest education in the pursuit of ever-growing need for preserving and replenishing the urban forest in and around Asheville and western North Carolina.

We are building a robust network of regional tree commissions, tree and environmental-related nonprofits, community tree advocates and individuals to improve the quality of life in cities, counties and the region and provide vibrant and sustainable forest ecosystems.
