Being influenced by the football culture when I was in the UK, I started to watch football as a habit since 2019. Champions League SF, two great comebacks in a row: Liverpool vs. Barcelona, followed by Spurs vs. Ajax. That was the beginning of my football journey, though the final that year turned out to be mid and boring.
Initially, I was only a neutral fan – just enjoy the games and not too focused on the results. Arsenal were a meme club at that time, when Arteta took over in the middle of 2019–20 Season. As I watched how Arteta evolutionised Arsenal, I gradually became a half Arsenal fan, while the other half still being neutral.
Apart from Arsenal, I also like watching Barcelona, Manchester City and Liverpool, mainly because of their play styles and players. On the contrary, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United. Also a Messi fanboy ;), GOAT.
2019–20 Season: 8th with 56 Pts, 14/14/10
2020–21 Season: 8th with 61 Pts, 18/7/13
2021–22 Season: 5th with 69 Pts, 22/3/13
2022–23 Season: 2nd with 84 Pts, 26/6/6
2023–24 Season: 2nd with 89 Pts, 28/5/5
2024–25 Season: 2nd with 74 Pts, 20/14/4
2019–20 Season: Europa League R32, 2-2 to Olympiacos (Away Goals Rule)
2020–21 Season: Europa League SF, 1-2 to Villareal
2021–22 Season: No European Football
2022–23 Season: Europa League R16, 3-3 (P 3-5) to Sporting CP
2023–24 Season: Champions League QF, 2-3 to Bayern Munich
2024–25 Season: Champions League SF, 1-3 to Paris Saint-Germain
How time flies, Arteta has now completed 5 full seasons at Arsenal. Through the past few seasons, Arteta has indeed transformed Arsenal from a meme club to a top contender. Even the greatest clubs in Europe now need to take the games very seriously against Arsenal. However, a top contender without any big trophies. Premier League – 2nd place 3 years in a row, and European Football – not even a single final for a long time.
Personally, I do like Arteta as a human being - calm, smart and logical. However, I do not think he is the one for big trophies. Some people are born to be champions, while others are not. Just a chrisma thing, but I feel like Arteta has reached his limits. If Arsenal are ambitious enough for the next stage, they need to consider replacing Arteta. Thanks for your great commitment, but it is time to go. If not, incoming another good but trophyless season.
