Weekly distributed Course Outline
Week 1-3: Atomic structures, semiconductors, conductors and insulators, covalent bonds, conduction in semiconductors. N-Type and P-Type semiconductors, the diode, Biasing the diode, VI characteristic of a diode, Diode models, testing a diode.
Week 4-5: Half wave rectifiers, full wave rectifiers, power supply filters and regulators, Diode limiting and clamping circuits, voltage multipliers, the diode data sheet, system application.
Week 6: 1st Mid Term
Week 7-9: Zener diodes, its applications, Different types of Diodes, System Application, Transistor structure, Basic transistor operation, its characteristics and parameters, Transistor as an amplifier and as a switch, transistor packages and terminal identification, System application.
Week 10-12: The DC operating point, voltage-divider bias, other bias methods, Amplifier operation, Transistor AC Equivalent circuits, Common-Emitter Amplifier, Common-collector Amplifier. 2nd Mid Term
Week 13-14: Common-Base Amplifier, Multistage Amplifiers, The JFET, its characteristics and parameters, Biasing, the MOSFET, its characteristics and parameters, Biasing.
Week 15-16: FET Amplification, Common-source Amplifiers, Common-Drain Amplifiers, Common-Gate Amplifiers, Class ‘A’ Power Amplifiers, Class B and Class AB push-pull Amplifiers, Class C Amplifiers.
