Vocal Music Director
Sarah Stockton is the Vocal Music Director at Walled Lake Western. Before joining WLW in 2018, Ms. Stockton was the Vocal Music Director at Grand Blanc High School since 2006 and choir teacher at Grand Blanc West Middle School since 2009. Sarah holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University, studying under David Rayl and Jonathan Reed, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Central Michigan University. Her mentor, Dr. Nina Nash-Robertson (CMU) passed away in 2018, but has made a lasting impact on her teaching.
Mrs. Stockton was also previously the Artistic director for the New Century Chorale, an adult community choir in the Grand Blanc area from 2009-2018. The New Century Chorale is comprised of 50 voices representing communities throughout Genesee and Northern Oakland counties. Founded in 1993, New Century Chorale is committed to enrich lives, one song at a time. Many GBHS choir graduates go on to sing with NCC after graduation.
In 2018, Sarah was honored to become a choral staff member for the Michigan Ambassadors of Music. She traveled to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein, and Germany during the summer of 2019. Additionally, Mrs. Stockton was selected as the 2020 6-7-8 SA Honors Choir for the Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association.
Other musical endeavors include performing frequently as a Soprano soloist and serving as a private voice and piano instructor. Additionally, Sarah is an active member of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association, American Choral Directors Association, and the National Association of Music Education.
She resides in Farmington Hills with her husband, Josh and their son Everett. They have two dogs, Kofax and Peanut. In her free time, she enjoys working out and crafting.
Kimberly Swan is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, holding two degrees in vocal performance. She has appeared in supportive and leading roles in operas and musicals for over twenty-five years; Some of Kimberly’s most memorable roles include: Donna Anna in Mozart’s, Don Giovanni, Helena in Britten’s, Midsummer’s Night Dream, Clorinda in Rossini’s, La Cenerentola, Adele in Johann Strauss’, Die Fledermaus, and Oscar in Verdi’s, Un Ballo in Maschera.
Since returning to the area, Kimberly has established both private and professional vocal studios that provide individual lessons to more than sixty students. Ms. Swan frequently appears in the Metro-Detroit area as a concert soloist and an operatic soprano. A specialist in the classical art song repertoire, Ms. Swan has given recitals and performed numerous concerts for such organizations as the Dearborn Orchestral Society, the Grosse Pointe Chamber Music Society, the Hungarian Cultural Center, the Chamber Music Series of the Scarab Club, The Verdi Opera, The Bellini Opera, Musica da Camera, and the Tuesday Musicale.
Kimberly currently is one of the Instructors of Voice for the Music Program at Walled Lake Western as well as the vocal coach and accompanist for the Livonia Civic Chorus.
