Dr. Ho-Kyung Kim is a Professor in the Department of Civil, Urban, and Environmental Engineering at Seoul National University. He is a leading scholar in bridge engineering, wind engineering, and structural engineering, with particular expertise in the structural design, wind-resistant performance, operational monitoring, and dynamic behavior of long-span bridges and cable-supported structures.
Prof. Kim currently serves as Director of the Floating Infrastructure Research Center (FLORA) at Seoul National University and Director of the Institute of Construction and Environmental Engineering at SNU. He is also Vice President and Fellow of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), and will serve as the 59th President of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers (KSCE) beginning in 2027.
In addition to his academic and professional leadership, Prof. Kim has contributed extensively to the development of advanced infrastructure technologies, including bridge aerodynamics, structural health monitoring, and floating infrastructure systems. He has also played a central role in major international bridge and structural engineering activities, including serving as Chair of the Organising Committee for the IABSE Congress Incheon 2026.
Prof. Kim served as the M.S. and Ph.D. advisor to the four organizers of WiSE 2026. The workshop is organized by these former students and their own students. Prof. Kim has been invited as the inaugural lecturer in recognition of his mentorship and his lasting influence on this academic community.
