In obedience classes, the trainer/main handler is instructed on how to teach their dog basic commands like sit, down, stay, stand, heel, and come. We also teach leave it, go to spot, watch me, several other commands and many fun recall games. If your pet has specific problems like barking and jumping, we can help with that, too, with most of the training being on-leash. Our training methods are gentle and easy with positive reinforcement used through play and treats making the learning experience enjoyable for both you and your pet. Obedience class is also a great way to help your dog learn to socialize with other dogs and their owners. Puppy/Beginners Obedience is for 2–6-month-old dogs; Advanced Obedience is for dogs 6 months and older.
In agility class, you will learn how to guide your dog through a course of obstacles like jumps, tunnels, weave poles, teeter totters, ramps, and A-frames. We focus on building your dog's confidence and responsiveness to your commands while navigating the obstacles in a coordinated manner, working together to complete the course efficiently and accurately. Beginner agility classes start with familiarizing your dog with the equipment and then gradually progressing to the advanced agility classes, where you will learn more complex sequences as your and your pet’s skills are developed. You will be instructed on how to use body language, hand signals, and verbal cues to help direct your dog through the course. We emphasize positive reinforcement through praise and treats to reward your dog’s correct behavior. Courses also provide opportunities to prepare for Novice and ACT (Agility Course Testing). This training is energetic, fun, and one of the best ways to bond, communicate and build trust with your pet. Agility training is for dogs that are 6 months and older and have completed a beginners’ obedience session and for handlers who are able to physically navigate courses with their dog. Our club hosts two agility trials per year.
In therapy-CGC class, you will learn how to manage your dog to calmly interact in a variety of environments and situations by teaching them how to respond to your different cues. We focus on socialization and obedience and practice commands like sit, stay, come, and leave it while your dog is exposed to distractions like crowds, loud noises, and sudden movements. This training helps your pet learn how to maintain a friendly, relaxed demeanor, while proactively preventing negative reactions. Your dog will learn how to remain calm so strangers, like veterinarians, can handle them in a controlled manner. We teach good leash manners by practicing this through role play. When testing is available, Therapy-CGC training allows you and your pet to become a certified Therapy Dog team and/or earn AKC CGC and AKC Advanced CGC titles. Therapy-CGC training is for dogs that are 1 year and older and must have completed an obedience class.
In conformation class, you will learn how to handle your dog in the show ring. This includes training in how to move, stack and show your dog’s bite. You and your dog will learn when and what to do in the ring, how to hold and manage the show lead, and how to move your dog at the right speed for its breed. Conformation class is only for purebred dogs and puppies of all ages; no prerequisite classes are required. This is a non-traditional type of class, drop-ins are welcome.
In AKC S.T.A.R. puppy class your puppy will learn how to communicate, socialize and interact with other dogs and people. Basic commands like sit, down, and come are taught. We also cover topics like house training, crate training, and leash walking. The acronym S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsible Owner. Puppies who take this class are better prepared to pass the C.G.C. (Canine Good Citizen) test, go on to participate in more advanced activities like agility, therapy, and fly-ball; and after successful completion and testing, the S.T.A.R. title can be added to your puppy’s name! This class is a great way for you and your new pet to get off to a good start and is open to all puppies up to a year old.

In a flyball training class, your dog will initially learn how to jump over hurdles, trigger a ball-release box, and retrieve a ball. After each skill is independently mastered, your pet learns how to put it all together and compete on a 4-dog team! In addition, flyball training is a great way to teach your dog socialization skills and helps your dog build muscle, improve coordination, and increase endurance. When you train your dog in flyball, you not only build trust with your dog, but you also develop a closer bond with your pet. If your dog is energetic and obsessed with retrieving balls, this may be the sport for you and your pet! Flyball training is for dogs that are at least 6 months old. This is a nontraditional type of class, drop-ins are welcome. Our club hosts one yearly tournament.
