Winnie's Rattery was founded in June 2020 with the help of Scruffians Rattery.
We are located in West Auckland.
The girls at Winnie's Rattery are super spoiled and get a quad ferret kingdom! The large cage has heaps of space with lots of fun things for the girls to explore. A whole lot of branches hanging from the top of the cage creates a personalized climbing frame for the girls to enjoy.
Any old or sick girls get to enjoy some peace and quiet in their own Strong Rat Cage where they won't get disturbed by the energetic youngsters.
The boys who live at Winnie's Rattery get a doublewide ferret kingdom to run around in. The horizontal long cage offers many areas for the boys to explore and have fun. There are many hidey houses and sleeping nooks for the boys to get their personal space from the others in the cage. In the photo above the boys cage can be seen in the bottom two sections.
At Winnies Rattery the ratties have access to a extra large play table made from two large panels hung from the ceiling. The play table is covered with pine shavings for the ratties to rustle around in and includes many different enrichment activities. A large dig box is in the centre of the table and has a rotation of different rat safe plants grown in it, the ratties love kicking the coco coir everywhere and ripping out all their plants. It is a great chance for them to display natural behaviours. There are many different climbing areas to explore with branches, scarf hangers, a cat tree and a mix of tunnels and ladders. Hidey houses and a cage full of hammocks provide tired ratties with a place to rest. The different groups of rats at Winnies Rattery all get their own time on the play table with each group rotated daily.
Our main maternity cages are Strong Rat cages. They have small bar spacing preventing babies from squeezing out and have a deep base for adequate substrate. The cages are mainly used by nursing mothers and litters. The cages are large enough for the babies to explore when they are old enough. Once the babies are 4.5 weeks old they will be separated by sex and moved to their respective cages.
