Thank you for your interest in adopting from Winnie's Rattery. Please read all of this page to ensure you understand and can meet our criteria. The rats from Winnie's Rattery are our pets and are loved by us dearly, therefore it is our duty to find them the best homes for each and every rat born to us.
We have a simple adoption process that must be followed before adopting from our Rattery. Below you will find information about our adoption process, our adoption contract and the pre-adoption questions to get put on the wait list.
All potential adopters are asked to please fill in the pre-adoption questions form which can be found here. Filling in this form adds you to the wait list. Make sure to check out our Facebook page for updates on potential litters or check out our Babies page.
The wait list works on a first come first served basis. Past adopters and breeders are contacted first followed by those who have been on the waiting list the longest. We will try to meet your preferences regarding markings/colours but this is not always possible. You are welcome to stay on the wait list until you adopt. If you change your mind about adopting from us, send us a message and we will happily find the babies a new home.
We try to contact people when the babies are around 4-5 weeks of age when we make a short list to reserve babies. Please understand that we cannot guarantee the colours or markings from available litters. Our babies are only sold in same-sex pairs/trios, with the exception of a single rat being left. In this case the remaining rat will most likely stay with us, if not then the rat would only go to a home with rats of similar ages. The babies will be ready for pick up around 7-8 weeks of age. The week before their re-home date I will contact all adopters to arrange pickup/transport. We will happily hold babies for a bit longer if needed.
If at any point in time you wish to re-home a rat you have adopted from us please contact us first. We will happily take them back or find them another suitable home. No questions will be asked.
Adoption fees are $60 per rat and MUST go in (at least) pairs. The fee includes an adoption pack.
Adoption pack example - please note snuggle sack fabric can change due to fabric availbility
