Ms. Sue Funk is a proud alumni of Illinois State University (ISU) and their Big Red Marching Machine, where she got her Bachelors of music education. She is working on a Masters of instructional technology at Grand Canyon University. She is a Winnebago alumni! She began teaching music in 2010 and is very excited to be the middle school band director for Winnebago.
Ms. Funk's primary instrument is the French Horn, which she actively performs in various professional and community groups. She is also the director for the Rockford Competitive Marching Band, a competitive drum corps style high school group in the Rockford area.
She also is the music director for the Main Street Players of Boone County community theater group. She has worked several summers at Interlochen Fine Arts Camp, and encourages all passionate musicians to consider a summer up in Michigan making great music.
Mr. Shawn Maher began teaching music in 1998 and is currently the director of bands at Winnebago High School where he conducts the three concert ensembles, jazz ensemble, pep band, and marching band.
He received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a Jazz Emphasis from Millikin University, and Masters degrees from Northern Illinois University in Conducting and Concordia University in Administration. While at NIU he worked as the Graduate Assistant with the Athletic Bands and the Graduate Conducting Associate with the Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Wooten.
An active clinician and performer throughout Illinois and Wisconsin, Mr. Maher has shared the stage with such notables as Louie Bellson, Marvin Stamm, Wynton Marsalis, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.
