This festive kickoff party offers a sneak peek of the artwork that will be showcased in merchant windows across Maplewood throughout the month of March. Meet the talented women artists behind the work, connect with the local merchants featuring their art, and preview pieces before they officially go on display.

Women lifting women is the heart of the Windows for Women project. By turning shop windows into gallery spaces, this initiative amplifies the voices and visibility of women artists while supporting local businesses and creating a vibrant, walkable arts experience throughout the community.

Windows for Women is organized and produced by the Maplewood Village Alliance, in partnership with the Division of Arts & Culture of Maplewood Township and Springfield Avenue Maplewood (SAM). Special thanks to the event chair, Maria Savidis Markatos.

We hope you’ll join us for this inspiring evening celebrating art, community, and women creatives

Women lifting women is the goal of the Windows for Women project

In honor of Women’s History Month, Maplewood is once again hosting the Windows for Women project. For the month of March, business owners in Maplewood’s business districts will showcase the works of women artists in windows or inside their businesses.

Did You Know? Women’s History Month started as Women’s History Week?

Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month, the month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.

Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. The week was chosen to coincide with March 8, International Women’s Day. In the years that followed, the movement spread across the country as other communities initiated their own Women’s History celebrations eventually to last all March long.

In Maplewood, in recognition of Women’s History Month, residents and guests may enjoy a community-wide art gallery, all while supporting our local businesses.

In honor of Women's History Month, Windows for Women is returning to Maplewood. This year the Maplewood Village Alliance (MVA) and Springfield Avenue Maplewood (SAM) are jointly hosting Windows for Women, and we are looking for Studio Tour SOMA and other South Orange and Maplewood female artists.

The show will take place in Maplewood Village and Springfield Ave during the month of March.
