If you sign in to your PC with your Microsoft account, your email address is already set up in the Mail app. And the Mail app syncs with the People and Calendar apps on your PC and your Windows Phone.
I use windows live mail. Sometimes I get attachments inWord, Excel, etc. If I open the document from mail, and hit "save" I can notfind out where it saves. It does not save in any temp file that I can see.

Any program that interacts with content from unknown, possibly malicious actors, like a mail client, needs to be updated from time to time. WLM is out of support. Possibly, it has vulnerabilities - but that won't be researched, since it is out of support - as simple as that. Windows Live Mail reached its End of Life on June 30, 2016.
A couple of weeks ago my Yahoo emails coming into my Windows Live Mail 2011 suddenly stopped coming in and gives me an error message. The error message was the pop-up box saying the password is incorrect. I hadnt changed the password prior to the fault cropping up. I have two email accounts on my Live Mail, the Yahoo one ( POP3), and my own personal one (IMAP), the IMAP account continues to work fine. Both have been working perfectly until now. Ive since changed the passwords, no good...deleted and re-installed the Yahoo account numerous times... no good..Ive checked and double checked all the settings for the Yahoo account and they are as they should be. If I log into Yahoo Mail.co.uk online then everything's fine, its in Windows Live Mail where the problem is. I can also access the accounts on my smart phone too. Since then Ive introduced Thunderbird to my computer and I can access both accounts as normal. Im not keen on Thunderbird though and want to resume with Live Mail, but am completely stumped for a solution to this problem. Hope someone can help ~ andy
Meanwhile back at the ranch so to speak...my Tier-3 technical contact is working feverishly on a solution to the WLM/Win 7/MAS missing in action issue. Just got an email saying that he thinks he knows why it isn't working, which could mean a solution is possible.
Interesting indeed. The weird part is that I never used Anti-Spam as my mail is filtered externally, but I do have it installed in one of my mutli-boots that has the beta product installed and as I was under the impression that WLM was OK this got me involved.
I'm wondering if it will work at least to filter mail if not provide a toolbar in WLM as long as one is NOT using a Hotmail/MSN/Gmail address at all, as I think that is the snag. Anyway, hopefully all will be revealed eventually.
We have received yet another complaint today about our emails not working in Windows Live Mail. Is there really nothing that can be done to deal with the underlying problem? Despite lack of support from MS, Windows Live Mail, like Outlook Express before it, isn't going to disappear any time soon, and it's much more recent an app than, say, Windows XP where LE didn't work either when first released.
I don't know much about CRL, but is there maybe some way to make a bridge back from OCSP data to CRL, enough to make the obsolete Live mail program work even if revocation isn't possible there, or some way we might be able to patch Live Mail. Might an approach to Microsoft be helpful?

Telling them to change their email client, with all that entails to unknowledgeable people who have long since forgotten their email passwords just makes it worse.
Windows Live Mail (formerly named Windows Live Mail Desktop, code-named Elroy[2]) is a discontinued freeware email client from Microsoft. It was the successor to Windows Mail in Windows Vista, which was the successor to Outlook Express in Windows XP and Windows 98. Windows Live Mail is designed to run on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but is also compatible with Windows 8[1] and Windows 10, even though Microsoft bundles a new email client, named Windows Mail, with the latter.[3] In addition to email, Windows Live Mail also features a calendar, an RSS feed reader, and a Usenet newsreader.
Windows Live Mail moved away from the older Microsoft mail programs, such as Outlook Express, which stored all e-mails comprising a folder (such as the Inbox) in a single .dbx file. In order to provide greater flexibility (and to avoid the problem where corruption of a single .dbx file could delete multiple emails), Windows Live Mail stores each email message as a separate .eml file. Only the folder structure is maintained in a single database file, using the ESE (Extensible Storage Engine) database structure, named Mail.MSMessageStore (which also holds some metadata for each .eml file on the system, so can be a huge file). The program also maintains a backup copy of that file, in the Backup sub-folder, so problems are rare. At a pinch, the Mail.MSMessageStore file can be recreated from the data in the .eml files.[citation needed]
Since around 2013, serious problems with Windows Live Mail 2012 (but not with Windows Live Mail 2011) have been reported on various blog sites (including Microsoft forums). One problem is that deleted emails keep returning day after day.[9] Another development that caused complaints is the Live Mail Sent folder erroneously containing the name of the Sender rather than the Recipient in the To column, while omitting the sender's account name in the Account column (as the fault only affects that folder, a workaround is to move sent items into a new folder, named - for example - "Sent 2019").[10] Discussions on the forums have provided no clear solutions to these issues.
Although use of DeltaSync has been discontinued on Microsoft's servers since 30 June 2016, Windows Live Mail 2011 and 2012 continue to work with Hotmail e-mail accounts by using IMAP (or, less effectively, POP3) instead of DeltaSync.[12][13] Gmail and other service providers still support DeltaSync,[14] so users can still use Windows Live Mail 2011 with non-Microsoft email accounts (but not Windows Live Mail 2012, as DeltaSync support was removed from it).
Email providers often block VPN's because they see you accessing your account from a different location than they expect to see you. In case it is someone trying to hack your account, they restrict access.
If a local client you can add the email client's .exe file to the Split Tunnel feature of the Norton VPN feature. From the new My Norton interface click on the down arrow beside Turn on/off beside the VPN feature, then click on Settings. Click on Split Tunnel and then click add. Find the exe for the client and add it. Then you should not have any issues with your email as it will bypass the VPN.
If the option to delete emails from server was initially chosen during POP account configuration, emails would have been deleted from the mail server as they were downloaded to the email client, so the newly configured IMAP account will not contain these emails.
To avoid losing these emails during the switch from POP to IMAP, you must select the emails contained in the various folders (inbox, sub folders, trash or sent items) on your POP account, and drag and drop them into the respective folder within your newly configured IMAP account. To be safe, you can also move and store these emails in an external folder.
After your existing emails have been moved from your POP account to their corresponding newly configured IMAP folders (and after ensuring that no emails are missing), you can delete the existing POP-configured profile and its respective folders from your mail client. Then, continue using Xfinity Email through your new IMAP profile.

In order to export messages from Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird, you must export messages from the Windows application and import them into Thunderbird. If you are using a web-based application provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to access your email, you probably only need to configure your account information to switch to Thunderbird. See Configure an Account for instructions.
Once you have configured your account in Thunderbird, you should be able to access all your messages (both incoming and sent). However, your address book (contacts), mail filters and other settings will not be automatically transferred to Thunderbird.
