Come Follow Me
In June, Come Follow Me focuses on the faithful lives of Ruth and Hannah, the calling of prophets, King David's courage, and the establishment of Israel's kingdom.
June 1–7: Ruth; 1 Samuel 1–7
I can show love and kindness to people around me.
As you share with your children the story of Ruth (you could use “Ruth and Naomi” in Old Testament Stories, 100–103), invite them to raise their hands every time they hear an act of kindness in the story. They can also share how they feel when others are kind to them, or when they are kind to others. How has the Savior been kind to us? How can we follow His example?
June 8–14: 1 Samuel 8–10; 13; 15–16
The Lord looks at our hearts, not just our outside appearance.
Wrapping Paper Game. Bring a few wrapped boxes to FHE. One should be messy on the outside but full of treats or something the kids will be excited about, and the other should be wrapped beautifully but empty. Explain that like Samuel choosing a new king, God doesn't care if we are tall or "perfect." He looks at our hearts. Draw a big heart on a piece of paper. Have your children write or draw ways they can have a kind heart like David.
June 15–21: 1 Samuel 17–18; 24–26; 2 Samuel 5–7
True courage and faithful friendships.
The Goliath Challenge. Build a giant cup tower with paper cups. Give kids "stones" (balled-up socks) to throw at the cups. Talk about how David had courage to face a giant because he trusted in the Lord.
Have your children trace their own feet and write footprints representing ways they can show courage at school or home.
June 22–28: 2 Samuel 11–12; 1 Kings 3; 6–9; 11
Asking for wisdom and making good choices.
What Would You Choose? Play a "Would You Rather" game focusing on wise choices vs. earthly treasures." Read about King Solomon asking for an understanding heart. Make a paper temple crown. As you build the crown, discuss how the Israelites built a temple for the Lord and how we can prepare to go to the temple today.
