Remembrance of Magic is an indie project created by three lifelong fantasy and RPG enthusiasts who've been enjoying interactive fiction and role-playing games together since the 1980s. As veteran (not old!) storytellers, game developers, and artists, we aim to rekindle the choice-based adventure genre and share it with a new generation of readers. More about us:
Regina Milton is our lead writer. She's been playing with the same D&D group for forty years and still cherishes her first ranger who (almost) completed The Temple of Elemental Evil.
Jaro Mel is our lead artist. He started his (semi) official career as the portrait maker of the seminal D&D group. At age 12, he won 2nd place in the local RPG convention's costume contest, dressed as a polyhedral dice set.
Mortisus is our lead developer. Tears still come to his eyes when recalling the fall of Jeronam, his level 2 cleric who, along with the entire party, met his end at the hands of evil orcs in the Citadel By The Sea adventure. Oh, how we cried that day!
AI Disclaimer: The story's artwork is created using AI-assisted tools under human artistic direction. The story text is entirely human-written.

While inspired by classic gamebooks and CYOA type stories, we chose to place extra emphasis on high-quality writing and storytelling, which often lacks in this genre. In addition, we decided against using luck-based elements. There are no dice rolls or coin flips. Your decisions can sometimes mean life or death, but they are always relevant to the current scenario.
The story is 100% free, and also ad-free. Everyone can experience the full story without paying anything or watching distracting ads. We do encourage readers who enjoy the story to support us by donating, but this is completely optional.
The story begins in the small village of Wicfeld, at the heart of Brycland, a region ruled by the The Regency, but it was not always so. Brycland is a vast country with a rich history, religion, and lore that unfolds as the story progresses.
Yes! Each and every story passage has a unique color painting depicting the current situation from the protagonist's viewpoint. There are currently over 400 images to enjoy.
We wanted to make replayability fun and engaging, so we added a system where readers earn achievements by completing in-story challenges, such as discovering hidden items or accomplishing specific tasks. Each achievement unlocks an original short story that's both entertaining and expands on Bryclandβs rich folklore.
Yes! We are hard at work on the two final parts of the story. We won't give spoilers, but our hero reunites with friends and sets out to face the ancient evil lying in wait. There is no exact ETA for completion, but we hope to conclude the first book by spring 2026.
