Testimonials

What have others said about my training, resources and support?

'At a time when people were talking about assessment without levels or school-sport partnerships, Will was asking questions like “why PE?” and seeking solutions from left field (and right and midfield for that matter). He’s not afraid to ask the difficult questions but nor is he afraid to stick around and puzzle out the solutions. Not THE solution, but the one that fits the local context and the site specific aspirations. Will is often at the top of my list of collaborators or teachers because I know I’ll be challenged and so will the young and aspiring teachers I work with every day'.

  • Dr Ash Casey, Senior Lecturer in Pedagogy and Programme Director, MSc in Education with QTA (Physical Education)

'We have been working with Will since October 2019 within our Sport England Secondary Teacher programme and we have not looked back. Will has managed to galvanise and inspire over 20 PE professionals in our Borough and take them through a journey of in some cases huge professional and personal transformational change which will have a lasting legacy for years to come on local students. Through the delivery of a brilliantly well executed PE Curriculum Design programme Will has empowered and supported Heads of PE to have the confidence and evidence to re-design and develop PE to ensure it is fit for purpose for every child. Will has been supportive, inspiring, critical where necessary and a hugely powerful resource especially through the extreme challenges of this last year and Covid-19. He has his finger firmly on the pulse of the education landscape and has shared practice and knowledge from all elements of educations and from PE from across the globe. Will has managed to also support and empower both Heads of PE brand to the role and also those who have a great many years’ experience and this is testament to his own personal experiences and depth of knowledge. We will continue to work with Will for as long as he’ll put up with us!'

  • Laura Brookstein (Slough School Sport Network Manager & Berkshire Inclusion Lead)

'Will has been leading our PE network meeting for several years. This regular CPD is so valuable as a head of PE, Will is knowledgeable about the current climate in PE, but more than that, he facilitates the sessions with a real insight into what the challenges are when teaching and leading on PE. Sessions are always engaging and the focus of sessions always relevant. Fundamentally Will is passionate about the physical education students receive, he provides a safe space for us to challenge our practice, systems and curriculum and supports the development of our faculties fully. I would highly recommend attending CPD sessions with Will'.

  • Sarah Johnson (Director of PE, The Redhill Trust)

‘Will’s delivery is simply in a class of his own. He has been a valued member of the Physical Education tutor team on Buckingham University’s residential programme, for the past few years. All of Will’s seminars and practical delivered workshops are well researched and led with a professional passion that is infectious. Feedback from our trainees and staff alike is amazing. He is a fantastic advocate for Physical Education. I have no reservations in fully recommending Will’.

  • Mark Attenburrow (Head of ITT Physical Education, Buckingham University.)

'It has been a pleasure to work with Will in several guises in recent years. He is a knowledgeable and passionate advocate both for PE and for the wider education of young people. He speaks with authority and behaves with integrity. In some difficult settings I have seen Will skilfully and diplomatically navigate some potentially tricky waters, at every turn bringing the conversation back to the primary focus. He is respected by all who meet him and work with him as a dedicated and hard-working professional'.

  • Shaun Dowling (United Learning Head of Sport)

'Will came in and performed a full Faculty review, which encompassed all aspects of PE. During his time with us, he provided reassurance for myself and members of my team around our practice and direction of travel. Will offered a full action report that gave really specific key foci for us to work towards. The most impressive element of Will’s visit, was his attention to detail, where his depth of experience gave us an insight in to what a forward thinking and innovative department should look like. He also ensured we met the challenges posed by the new Ofsted Inspection Framework'.

  • Dan Hutchinson (Head of PE, Bluecoat Wollaton Academy)

'It has been such a pleasure to work alongside Will Swaithes, who has become my professional ‘critical friend’. He is always willing to provide his guidance, feedback and his own thoughts and ideas to anything I share with him. As a head of department, I always feel like this support makes me look at aspects that I had planned in a different light and highlight other questions I needed to consider to move forward. The INSET session he joint lead with myself, to evaluate my departments new KS3 curriculum was fantastic. His fresh ideas allowed my department to reflect on our current provision positively and unpick small changes which needed to be made to ensure the curriculum was robust. Furthermore, his new ideas engaged my team and they all went away from the session buzzing and keen to further develop our curriculum'.

  • Laura Pass (Director of Learning: Physical Development and Wellbeing, The Brunts Academy)

'This year I was lucky enough to attend Will’s course on ‘Understanding Assessment for OCR GCSE PE’. I found the course incredibly useful and as a result wanted to work with he further in school with my department. The tailored sessions which Will delivered in school were excellent. Will is extremely knowledge and during the sessions he was able to support all staff and give innovative ideas to stretch students to achieve. All staff felt more confident as a result of these sessions and motivation levels were high. Will is a fantastic advocate for our subject and has so much passion to support teachers develop, I look forward to working with him in the future. I would highly recommend booking a session with Will – my team got so much out of it'.

  • Sarah Gratton (Head of Physical Education, The Minster School)

'The GCSE master class provided by Will was informative, interesting and incredibly helpful! The students were engaged throughout and quickly grasped the ideas and strategies Will lead them through – the exam and revision techniques were particularly helpful. The staff CPD session gave us an opportunity to gain a better insight into the ideas and strategies that Will had lead the students through – ideas and strategies that have already been implemented in to our delivery plans and are already having a positive impact'.
