Clare is a fully qualified Basketmaker and Teacher, specializing in making traditional and contemporary Welsh baskets which are inspired by the colors and materials of the landscape around her. As a Maker’s Guild in Wales selected member, the high standard of Clare's craft skills have been recognized nationally and her work is permanently exhibited at Crafts in the Bay. In 2018 she was commissioned to weave the contemporary Rope Coil basket to introduce the Plant Section for the new Craft Gallery at the National Museum of Wales. She has taught for the UK Basketmaker’s Association, delivers City and Guilds accredited training, and considers high quality teaching an extremely important aspect of her work.

The Cyntell is a large Welsh agricultural frame basket with split willow ribs, the pattern of which has been handed down through generations. Weaving this basket provides a strong connection to Welsh agricultural and basketmaking heritage.
There are a wealth of skills to learn during the making of this basket including the basic principles of frame basket making such as making the frame and weaving rhythmically across the basket, splitting and shaving willow to form ribs, and handling willow.

Thursday (June 25)– 7 hrs.
This is a fun workshop to introduce you to the principles of willow sculpture. You will be introduced to sculpture skills that will enable you to form a 3D outline and then apply random weaving techniques to create your very own characterful life size chicken or duck.
Approx. Size: Sizes will vary, but think "life size".

Saturday/Sunday (June 27-28)– 14 hrs. (2 days 7 hrs/day)
The Zarzo basket is a design which is based on a traditional Spanish tray which was used to drain cheese. Danish basketmaker Ulla Misser took the basic design and experimented with making deeper baskets which are extremely striking in appearance and very popular. The design is very versatile and can be adapted to make a huge variety of functional baskets and trays. During this 2-day course you will thoroughly explore the technique and learn the round and square version of the basket and at least one tray. You will also be able to experiment with embellishments which can be applied to other baskets in the future. At least 3 Zarzo Baskets can be made during this two day workshop
