How long have you played with WTB, and how did you come to join us? I joined the band in Spring 2024 after being connected by Emy Berger, who was my colleague at the time. I was looking for ways to get back into playing music after many years away, and the band was a great fit!
Which instruments do you play? Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Contrabass Clarinet
Do you play in any other local bands? Yes! Green Mountain Sax Ensemble
Are you originally from Vermont? I'm originally from Williston, though I've bounced around a bit. I went to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and then spent two years teaching English in the suburbs of Hiroshima, Japan. Next I spent two years in Spain: one teaching English on a Fulbright grant in Galicia (northwestern Spain) and another year in the suburbs of Madrid teaching English while earning a Master's Degree in teaching Spanish. I've been super lucky to have lived in so many amazing places, but Vermont will always be home. It's great to be back!
What kinds of things do you like to do when you aren't playing music?
Professionally, I'm currently a Spanish teacher in Milton, though in the past I've taught/worked at Esses High School, Champlain Valley Union High School, Williston Central School, and Allen Brook School. Before that, I taught English in Spain and Japan.
Personally, I love to travel, and love learning languages so that I can travel to more places! Besides Spanish (and English), I speak Japanese and can get by in Galician. Other hobbies include reading, hiking, and cooking. I'm a (very) novice gardener and dabble in yarncrafts.
