In January 2026, a post on 𝕏 announced a global challenge to design a one-mile tunnel (1.6km), with the winning proposal to be built free by The Boring Company.
Having previously proposed the Williamstown Tunnel—and recognising how this 21st-century enhancement to public transport could be a true game-changer—we submitted an expression of interest.

Applications were required by 23 February, with a decision scheduled for 23 March 2026.
Previous needs research had already identified that access to public transport from Point Cook and Seabrook is a significant challenge for families, workers, students and older residents.
Access to Aircraft Station from Point Cook including Santuary Lakes development and Seabrook is a persistent and growing problem.
Despite significant investment in surrounding road infrastructure, residents south of the freeway face a difficult, indirect and often unsafe journey to rail—reliant on congested overpasses, limited parking, and poor last-mile connections. This disproportionately affects older residents, families, and those with mobility challenges, and constrains the full benefit of Melbourne’s public transport network in one of its fastest-growing corridors
Our expression of interest was accepted, and we then undertook discussions with a wide range of stakeholders—including residents, community organisations, local councillors, State representatives, accessibility experts, transport unions, geotechnical specialists and bike users.
We completed and submitted the application, presented in the eight slides on this page, together with a detailed Submission Report and two appendices.
Following the close of applications, The Boring Company reported on 𝕏 that 487 submissions had been received worldwide of which 70% were US and 30% international.

The submission also included a 24-page Submission Report and appendices, with reference to the current State Government Big Build project at Point Cook Road and Central Avenue.

did not include any international proposal — possibly influenced by broader geopolitical factors affecting early international projects by the Boring Company —we were nonetheless encouraged by GROK’s positive assessment of the full application. See: Point Cook Tunnel AI Assessment
