INDEPENDENT STUDY: COMPARATIVE JAPANESE FILM THEORY
Course Description: In this class, we will examine key texts, theorists, and topics in film theory through a comparative framework: examining the Eurocentric canon that has traditionally comprised Film Theory as a field in the West, in dialogue with film theory texts from Japan that address, respond to, and, in some cases, anticipate many of the same issues addressed in European and North American film theory. Readings will be in English and Japanese.
