Gluing
After the seven pieces of wood were picked, they were cut by the miter saw to the size of 5.5x5.5. Then they were stacked and glued with wood glue.
Flattening Edges and Planning Shape
To start the cut of the shape some of the edges were going to need to be straightened because the glue made many of the pieces uneven. To straighten the side a thick bandsaw blade was used to do a fast and clean cut through the wood. Then the side were sanded a little to take away some of the grittiness from the bandsaw cut.
Pasting Design and Planning Cut
After straightening the edges for the cut, the design for auto cad was taped to the face of the box. Then some planning out with pencil was made on the box to help aid with the cutting of the shape.
Cutting Shape and Drawer
The curve of the shape was done with a thin bandsaw blade, and then sanded to fix some issues in the shape. The top corners were also sanded with a belt sander for a smooth curve. Then to cut into the drawer the thin bandsaw blade was used to cut into the side of the blade and then slowly go around the shape of the drawer.
Gluing and Clamping Cut Drawer
The drawer was cut by cutting off the front and back, then carving out the shape in the middle. When this was done glue was applied and then the drawer was glued back together, and scrap wood was placed in between clamps to prevent denting in the box drawer.
Final Design
The design ended up being different from the original idea, as the top of the box broke off, the back was forgotten to be cut of for a stop of the drawer, and there was one one drawer instead of two.
