About

I grew up in Newfane and Lockport, respectively a farm town and a small city in Niagara County, New York. (I'm one of those people who gets annoyed if you call this "upstate" instead of "Western New York".)

I went to Canisius College, a Jesuit liberal arts college in Buffalo, for my BA. After that, I spent a few years continuing to study philosophy and math at SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Buffalo before moving to Chicago, where I lived during and after grad school at UIC.

I'm a first-generation college graduate. Outside of academia, I'm interested in photography, food, science fiction, poetry and rock climbing.
