I grew up in Newfane and Lockport, respectively a farm town and a small city in Niagara County, New York. (I'm one of those people who gets annoyed if you call this "upstate" instead of "Western New York".)
I went to Canisius College, a Jesuit liberal arts college in Buffalo, for my BA. After that, I spent a few years continuing to study philosophy and math at SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Buffalo before moving to Chicago, where I lived during and after grad school at UIC.
I'm a first-generation college graduate. Outside of academia, I'm interested in photography, food, science fiction, trivia, video games and rock climbing.
Like many philosophers of the 2010s and 2020s, my journey from PhD to tenure-track job was pretty long. If you think you might find it useful to see the materials from my successful William & Mary application, they're available here.
