Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts strand introduces interns to basic food preparation, cooking, and presentation of food that will enable them to transition from school to work into the food service industry. Interns in our program participate in the functional math such as measuring liquid and dry ingredients and functional reading skills including selection of recipes, reading directions to follow a recipe, locating the different ingredients, etc.  In addition, interns actively participate in customer service, marketing and sales activities within the school campus.

The major purpose of this course is to prepare students with skills required to work in the food service industry. Through direct instruction and practical application, students will learn the fundamentals of food safety & sanitation, food preparation, cooking, baking, and catering.
