The original secondary coil that came with the kit broke in storage, so I wound a new one on a piece of 2" PVC pipe. The one I made didn't match perfectly with the original coil from the kit, meaning the resonant frequency was off by enough to make noticeably smaller sparks. To fix this, I designed and 3D printed supports for a new conical primary, which is made of 1/4" OD flexible copper tubing. The bare copper allows for me to have one end permanently connected to the tank circuit and another easily adjustable tap point, allowing for precise changes to the inductance and therefore the resonant frequency.
