Robert Richmond Wilkinson owned a farm near Eastport in 1880 and was active in political affairs serving as Township Supervisor in 1881 and a Michigan Senator in 1891. His son Robert Raymond (1869-1962) owned the homestead from about 1930, and his descendants, the Witts, generously donated the Wilkinson property for the purpose of making a museum for Eastport.
In 2000, a group of local historians revitalized the home and worked to create a space that celebrated the history of the area and offer a community space for lectures and gatherings.
The COVID 19 pandemic, closed the museum for years. A new board of directors is now updating the property and working to open Summer 2026.
