For my Contemporary London project, I needed to find musicians to interview. I got an idea from reading Londoners in D term. I looked up good music venues in London and found the Half Moon Putney. The Half Moon Putney, located in Putney, London, is a both a bar and venue. I researched the shows that would occur while I would be in London and found a show with Selin & The Band as the headliner.
I reached out to Selin and asked if I could interview her. Once she said yes, I made plans to go see the concert with my flat-mate Julia. Our first Tuesday in London, we traveled to Putney. We arrived a slightly late, which was good since most pub shows do never start on time. The show at the Half Moon was scheduled to start at 8, but the first act did not go on until about a quarter to nine.
The first act, Cameron Donald, was a pleasant surprise. I did not expect much from the rapper, as he has not released many songs. However, he had upbeat songs and catchy riffs. It was a great way to start the show. I was so impressed with him that I reached out to him and asked for an interview and he agreed.
Selin, the headliner, put on a phenomenal show. Her songs were fun, and a mix between R&B and pop. Her songs, while about her life, were very relatable. This may have been only to me, as we are both around the same age, but due to the audience’s interest I believe everyone could relate to her music. After the show, I introduced myself and Selin immediately gave me a hug. While I was somewhat shocked, since we had only interacted via email before, I also appreciated her kindness. Pub concerts like this one are normally friends of the band that come and a few others that happened to be in the area. Julia and I did not know anyone else so for her to embrace us so warmly was extremely comforting. Overall, I had an amazing time doing extra research for one of my ISPs.
