I heard about the London Humanities program the summer before my freshman at WPI. When I received the email about the program, I saw the opportunities to study music. I immediately wanted to study in London. However, I never planned on coming because of the cost. In December of freshman year, I decided to take the trip due to my acceptance in WPI's Teacher Prep Program - the student teaching for the program would count as my IQP, therefore I would not have a change to study abroad without the humanities program. I spoke to my parents and applied.
Once the Global Department accepted me into the London HUA program, I needed to finalize the topics I wanted to study. Of course, I wanted to study music since music has been apart of my life since I was a toddler, but I needed to choose a topic to complete my breath requirement in. I decided to choose culture do to its wide range in aspects I could choose from. I have always been fond of literature; reading was one of my favorite past times as a child. Therefore, my main focus of culture would be literature.
Throughout my time in London, I will be visiting different sites throughout the city and learning about Culture and Literature. How is literature a part of London culture? How do Londoners use literature in their city?
