How do I earn a Wilderness Adventure Course completion certificate?

• • Participants must attend all three practicals and at least five out of the six in-person classroom sessions in order to receive their certification. 

What is the cost of the program?

• • $150.00 Sierra Club Members

  • $175.00 Non-Members

What are the dates?

• • Classroom Sessions (2 hours each) 

Classes will be held from 7:00pm - 9:00pm every week in Redlands, CA.

    3. January 27th, 2026

    4. February 3rd, 2026

    5. February 10th, 2026

    6. February 17th, 2026

  • Practicals (Full Day)

    1. January 24th - Hike and Navigation

    2. February 7th - Car Camp

Where is the Wilderness Adventure Course held?

• Classroom meetings will be held at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands. Practicals will be held at various outdoor locations in Southern California.

Are there any fitness requirements to participate in the course?

• Yes, a baseline of basic physical fitness will be necessary to have an enjoyable experience at WAC. Here are some things to keep in mind when weighing your decision to participate:

  • You are able to select your level of activity upon registration - please see the Rating System on the Course Details page

  • You will need to carry a backpack weighing between 10-40 lbs during the practicals

  • Sierra Club San Gorgonio offers many opportunities for physical conditioning prior to the start of the course. Please see the Outings and Events page of our chapter site.

What if I have to miss one of the days?

• • Please let WAC staff know as soon as possible if you plan to miss a session or a practical. 

What if I need an accommodation?

• Participants MUST notify Sierra Club San Gorgonio Chapter if they need reasonable accommodation at least 7 days in advance of the course start date.

My child wants to participate in the course with me, can they sign up too?

• Children 16 years of age and older may participate.

Can I bring alcohol or other substances on the trip?

• •   Alcohol and substances are NOT permitted at WAC activities

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

• Here are the options for obtaining a refund if you find you are not able to participate after registering:

  • Cancel for any reason before January 1, 2026 to receive a full refund.

  • Cancellation on or after January 1, 2026 will not receive a refund.

  • If SC SG has to cancel the course for any reason, participants will receive a full refund.

  • Outings may be rescheduled due to weather, safety, or other unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled outings.
