CLass Policies & FAQ

Policies

This class is intended for children ages 2-8 years, but there is some flexibility here. Please email if you have questions!

A parent/guardian/caregiver is required to attend class with the child each week. This is for safety and also to encourage you to engage in play with your child. Families often meet some adult friends there too!

This is a fully outdoor class. We will embrace all sorts of weather...sun, snow, cold, and wind! Please dress appropriately for each class. If the weather is extreme, class will be rescheduled. See FAQ below.

FAQ

Can I try a class before registering?

Periodically, we will offer free trial or pop up classes in local parks. Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram for these events.

If a season class is not full, you can attend class at a drop in rate. Please contact Amy at wildroots.salida@gmail.com to see if there are any available drop in spots.

What happens in inclement weather?

Decisions about whether it is safe to hold class are determined by using local weather guidance and a weather chart.

The teacher will update families at least 90 minutes prior to class by email and text message.

The session will be offered at another time the same week, or added on to the end of the season.

Do you offer make up sessions?

Make up sessions will be offered for cancelation due to inclement weather, or teacher illness. At this time, if there is a missed class due to student illness or vacation, make ups will not be offered. We will make every effort to provide you the supplies and activities for the missed class at home. If you are a Tinkergarten Anywhere subscriber, you will have access to a video version of the lesson.

We hope in future seasons to offer multiple classes a week so that make up sessions can be an option.

Can siblings come for free?

Siblings under 2 years old may join at no cost. Siblings over 2 years old should enroll in the class. There is a sibling discount.

6 week sessions only: If a sibling needs to attend due to scheduling change (i.e. day off at school), they can attend up to one session without enrolling. Families are asked to notify the teacher if an extra child needs to attend for a session so they can prepare any necessary materials.

Drop In Policy:

If you purchased a drop in session class and have a schedule change, you may change your drop in date to another session in the same season for no charge, as long as there is space in that class.

If you purchased a drop in session pack, please give at least 48 hours notice for which classes you would like to attend by emailing Amy. Please note, there is a chance that the class may be full the longer you wait, so choosing dates ahead of time is recommended.

Are refunds offered?

Full season enrollment: If a refund is requested 2 weeks or more BEFORE the season of classes begins, families can receive a full refund or credit towards a future class.

Drop In enrollment: see above

How do teachers foster a safe learning environment during class?

Each explorer (child) is accompanied by a guide (parent or caregiver). Teachers support guides and do all that they reasonably can to provide a learning environment that allows for safe risk-taking.

Teachers bring a First Aid Kit to class, which can be utilized by other adults if needed.

A few, simple rules help to address most situations:

Explorers (children) can explore on their own as long as they can still see or hear their guide or the Leader.

If explorers are taking physical risks, we check in to make sure that they feel sturdy and safe in their risk-taking.

Leaders encourage children to engage in risky play, but give clear redirection if or when safety and the safety of friends in the class could be compromised. For example, we celebrate that sticks are the #1 toy of all time, but we make sure that our sticks have plenty of space so they do not touch our friends' bodies. Ultimately, over time, we want to help children learn how to learn their limits while still playing in a way that keeps them and their friends out of true harm.
