Help for New Players

The Forums and Chat

Beginners Guide in Posting

 1. You must post 5 posts that are approved by a moderator to be able to get into chat.

 2. You must be at least 13 years old to post in the forums and to access chat because of the COPPA laws. If you are under 13, you should/will be put under the COPPA restrictions (meaning that you can't post and/or access chat. They can also remove the ability to write things in sale/stud ads as well as the ability to change a horse's description). Click here for even more about the COPPA laws and restrictions.

 3. There may be younger kids playing HWO (HWO is short for Horse World Online) so you may want to watch what you post. Click here for the official forum rules that were posted by Tom, one of the game's admins.

 4. To be able to post in the forums freely, you must post 5 posts and have them approved by a moderator.

 5. Don't hijack another player's post (hijacking a post means to post something completely unrelated to the original topic)

 6. Do not spam the forums (spamming means posting the same exact thing repeatedly)

How to Ping a Player

What is pinging a player?: Pinging a player is a way to get a player's attention on the forums without having to quote one of their posts.

 1.

2.

3.

4.

5.
message or just put ...
6.
...
The final result should notify the player and should look something like this when you submit the post. If it doesn't look similar to that and/or notify the player, then double check the coding and make sure that everything in the player's username is correct. You can also ping the admins in the same way.

How to Remove the COPPA Restrictions

Simply have your parents/guardians fill out this form and then have the filled form sent to either Tom or larissar.

General Behavior

The following guidelines/rules comes from this forum topic (7th post) and was written by BlackOak2 so all credit goes to her for these general behavior guidelines/rules.

 1. Do not hijack another post: This is defined as using another author's post for unrelated communication

 2. Do not spam in the forums: This is defined as using the same letter or word repeatedly, but can also include asking again and again for a service or a horse.

 3. Do not harass another player: This should be self explanatory, but I'll add it here, defined by repeatedly asking another player about multiple different things, or the same things and having been denied and asked to cease actions.

 4. Do not use cuss words or offensive phrases: I shouldn't need to define this one at all.

 5. Do not abuse the forum: This generally is designed as using any part of the forum in a way that it's not meant to be used. An example of this COULD be by advertising another game in a forum that is not chit chat.

 6. Do not verbally abuse another player: I shouldn't have to define this one either, but I'll add it as well, defined by continuing to harass another player after repeatedly being asked to cease and desist or by using words that degrade them in any way... If this one takes place on the game, this would be means of banning from the game itself, immediately, and likely without further explanation.

What happens if someone breaks these guidelines/rules?: "If action by our admins is needed, the consequences will generally (but not always) begin and proceed as follows:

Verbal warning.

Restriction from posting, or downgrading from posting to admin approval for a limited time.

Restriction from posting permanently.

And if warranted: banning from game itself." - Quote from BlackOak2's post

Another thing is do not lie about your age.

Earning Pony Tokens and Money

What are Pony Tokens?

Pony Tokens, or PT for short, are similar to money where you can buy special items from the tack shop as well as upgrading your account.

How can I get PT?: You can buy them with real world money, you must have a credit card. You find them by going to Menu, Store, and then Pony Tokens. You can also get PT from other players, from winning contests, and from grinders.

Can I give another player PT?: You can't take from your PT and then give it to another player. In order to give another player PT, you must buy the PT and instead of putting your username, put that player's username when you go to the store web page to buy the PT. The same for if a player is giving you PT.

Grinders are an easy way to get PT and Money

What are grinders?: Grinders are horses that you can enter in local shows and earn PT, money, and turns. Most of the time grinders are Arabians but they can be other breeds.

Contests and Other Players

You can enter contests that other players have created in the Contests Forum since most contests have money and very rarely PT for prizes. There are also some players who are kind enough to give new players money and horses.

Selling Horses

You can sell your horses for money. You can "flip" horses, but some players don't like it. Flipping horses is where you buy a horse and then sell the horse for a higher price than what you bought it for.

Studs

You can put your stallions up for public stud for a fixed price.

Doing Services for other players

You can do things for other players and have them pay you for it but this is where you need to show the players that they can trust you. The most common services that are wanted are training, boarding, champing, and aging.

Player Made Competitions

Player made competitions are competitions that are created by players. With these kinds of competitions, you can set the entry fee, competition level, competition name, set the discipline, set a purse, set age restrictions, set gender restrictions, and set breed restrictions. If your account is upgraded, you can set how often the competition reoccurs. The competitions need at least 5 horses to be able to run and if there are at least 5 horses entered, it will run 3 days after being created. Some competitions only allow you to enter 1 horse while others will allow you to enter multiple horses.

Skills Courses

What are skills courses?

Skill courses are basically courses that allows you to do more things. You can take training courses, horse ownership courses, and competition management courses.

Why should I do skills courses?

They allow you to be able to train horses faster, own more horses, put more stallions up for stud, own more broodmares, create higher competition levels, and create more competitions.

Horse Caring, Training, and Competing

Weight

Generally you want your horses to be between moderately thin and moderately fleshy The weight of the horse can effect how the horse does in competitions as well as contests that other players create.

The weights, in order: poor, very thin, thin, moderately thin, moderate, moderately fleshy, fleshy, fat, and very fat

Training

Why should I train my horses?: Training your horses will help make your horse better in competitions as well as make the horse more appealing to more players when selling, studding, or entering the horses into contests.

How do I train my horses?: Click here for a guide that tells you the best and fastest way to train your horses.

Competing

You can enter your horses in competitions and win money. Trained horses typically do better than horses that aren't trained as well as stallions typically do better than mares. Your horses can even break world records when they compete. Things that can effect how the horses do are the following: weight, body type, temperament, age, gender, trained/not trained, breeders report, and conformation. Your horse can also earn titles in different disciplines. When your horse competes in a competition, they can earn points which then can eventually give your horse titles. Your horse can become a Triple Champion if they have the same title in 3 different disciplines. Here's more about competitions and titles.

Breeding

Mares can breed when they are at least 4 years old and stallions can breed when they're at least 3 years old. Mares in gestation (pregnant) usually give birth around 12 game months after being bred and you can immediately breed the mare and stallion after the mare has given birth. Pregnant mares take up 2 spots in a barn or pasture so that there's room for the foal when it's born. You have the ability to put your stallions up for stud when they are old enough to breed so that other players can breed their mares to your stallions for a price that you have set. Currently there is no way to geld your stallions but that is a feature that the admins are planning on adding sometime in the hopefully near future. Lower COI and higher genetic potential can make the foals just as good as their parents or even better.

What is COI?: COI is basically the calculation of the past 7 generations of the horse to show any inbreeding (inbreeding is the breeding of horses that are family, like breeding a filly to her sire or breeding a filly to her full brother)

Does COI have any effect on my horses?: The only negative effect of a high COI is that the genes may not pass on to foals as well as a lower COI horse. Other than that, COI doesn't have any effect on the horses. The same with inbreeding, there are no negative facts of inbreeding horses other than the COI getting higher.

Where do I find my horse's COI?: You can find your horse's COI by finding it under the horse in the pedigree.

Temperaments

What temperaments are there?: listed from lower to higher: bombproof, calm, even-tempered, spirited, and high strung

Can all temperaments change?: Not all temperaments can change. A foal born with a bombproof temperament can be either extremely difficult or impossible to change.

What can temperaments effect?: the temperament of your horse can effect how your horse does in competitions.

Feeding

You generally want to give your horses around 100% feed to get full energy when you age the horse. There are different types of feed (Performance Mix, Sweet Feed, yellow corn, Weight Gaining, Hay, Alfalfa Hay, Alfalfa Cubes, and oats) you can give your horses. The feed can change the weight and temperament of your horses. Feeds like yellow corn and sweet feed gives your horse sugar which can change your horse's temperament higher while Performance Mix lowers your horse's temperament. If you want your horse to loose weight, you must give the horse lower than 100% feed, the highest of 90% feed. If you want your horse to gain weight, you must give your horse more than 100% feed, the lowest of 110% or switch to the Weight Gaining feed and feed your horse around 100% feed. The best way to get your horse to gain weight is to put them in a pasture and give them more than 100% feed. If you see a red box in the "Max Feed:" section of the feeding section of your horse, you're giving your horse more than it can eat and this could be a reason why the horse is either loosing weight or the weight is staying the same.

Aging

You can manually age your horses. There are what are called turns (a basic account can have up to 6 turns at a time and take 20 minutes to get back turns. Upgraded accounts can have up to 12 turns at a time and take 10 minutes to get back turns) that you can use to age your horses and go to the next day. The most that 1 turn can age your horse is by half a month. Horses will "die", usually called passing on, around 15 years of age or older. Breeding your horses can help make them last longer. If you don't want your horses to age, you can create another account, send your horses there, and don't use turns on that account.

Rehoming

What is rehoming a horse?: rehoming a horse is basically deleting a horse from the game forever

Can I get a rehomed horse back?: no, once it's rehomed, there's no way anyone can get the horse back so be extremely careful with the rehoming

Why can't I rehome a horse with foals?: rehoming horses with foals would create a break in a pedigree so therefore, you can't rehome horses with foals. In order to rehome a horse with foals, you would have to rehome all of the foals before rehoming the horse.

Daytime of when you can care for your horses

Your horses will always wake up at 6:00am game time after you use a turn. The latest you can care for your horse is 10:00pm game time then if you want to continue working with your horse, you must use a turn.

Breeders Report

The breeders report tells you how good a horse is in all of the different skills. Red highlighted comments are negative, comments that aren't highlighted are okay, green highlighted comments are good, and the gold highlighted comments are really good.

Conformation

Conformation is another thing that can tell you how good a horse is in all of the different stats. The better the horse is in a certain skill, the higher the numbers are. The conformation also tells you things like the face profile, point of shoulder, hip angle, leg thickness, and more. You can only see these things if you have an upgraded account or ask someone with an upgraded account to give you the conformation.

Breed Evaluation Books

You can buy an evaluation book from the book store (Menu, Market, Book Store) and then use it to evaluate your horse to other horses of that breed. The books can also help you with breeding other breeds.

Discipline Evaluation Books

These don't exist yet.

Tack

You can buy tack and other decorations from the tack store (go to Menu, Market, and then Tack Store) to put on your horse. Your horse doesn't need tack to compete in competitions. The tack is only decoration.

Player Bonuses

How do I get player bonuses?

You can buy them with real world money. You need a credit card and if you don't have one, ask a parent/guardian to buy them for you.

Where do I find player bonuses?

Go to Menu, Store, and then Player Bonuses. There you click on the one you want and buy it.

What do the player bonuses do?

They are like a permanent upgrade. The Experience Booster increases the player experience gained by 50%, the Faster Day Regeneration reduces the day regeneration rate by 50%, the Maximum Horse Booster increases the maximum number of horses you can own by 25%, the Faster Player Skill Learning reduces the time it takes to learn a player skill by 40%, the Increase Max Saved Days doubles the maximum saved days you can have, the Longer Days adds an additional 2 hours to your player day so you can get more work done each day, and the Time Saver reduces the time used by 25%. So an hour of training your horse will only use up 45 mins.

Upgraded Accounts

Benefits

 1. 12 banked turns at a time with 10 minute regeneration instead of 6 banked turns at a time with 20 minute regeneration

 2. Unlimited number of private sales instead of only 2 private sales

 3. Access private messaging (you must have access to posting in the forums for this to be available for you)

 4. Access the conformation on horses

 5. Add a farm Logo

 6. Create auto reoccurring competitions instead of a one time occurring competition

 7. Being able to create an use your very own signature (to find where you can edit your signature go to Menu, Settings, Forum Settings, Profile, and then Edit Signature)

How to get an upgraded account

To find where to get the upgraded account, otherwise known as a premium account, go to menu, store, and upgrade benefits. You must have at least 500 PT to get 1 month of premium. Once the time is up, you're account will go back to a basic account unless you have enough PT to pay for upgrading again.

Is it worth it to get an upgraded account?

Absolutely!

Sales and Studs

The best way to sell horses

How do I price my horses?: There are several different ways to know how to price horses. For starters, trained horses are worth more than horses with no training, horses that have a better win % are worth more than a horse with a really bad win %. One way to price your horses is by asking other players what they would buy the horse for. Another way is to look at horses that are similar to yours and see the prices of the other horses.

For example, this colt (this colt isn't for sale though, just using him as an example), a good starting base price could be 100k ($100,000). He has several good horses in his pedigree (Hurricane, Angelic Royalty, and many more) so this can add another let's say 30k ($30,000). He has both a good breeders report for racing and high genetic potential that can add another 20k ($20,000). Because of his really good speed comment, you could add another 15k ($15,000) to his price.

What's the best way to advertise my horses for sale?: The best way is to post in the "Horses For Sale" forum and occasionally advertising in chat. However, make sure that you aren't very excessive with how you are posting the horses for sale (bumping too often, posting about more than once in one week, etc.)

Studding

How do I price the stud?: There are several different ways to know how to price studs. For starters, studs that have a better win % are worth more than a stud with a really bad win %. One way to price your stud is by asking other players how much they would pay for 1 stud. Another way is to look at horses that are similar to yours and see the stud prices of the other horses.

What's the best way to advertise my horses for stud?: The best way is to post in the "Stallions at Stud" forum and occasionally advertising in chat. However, make sure that you aren't very excessive with how you are posting the horses for stud (bumping too often, posting about more than once in one week, etc.)

Deciding on What to Breed

Look at what seems to be the most popular

This is one way to figure out on what you want to breed. There are many kinds of popular breeds in the game that you could try to breed and maybe even get some help from other players.

Look at what isn't very common

There are many uncommon breeds as well as uncommon looks for the common breeds. There are many rare breeds you can attempt to breed, check out the Breeds Wiki for all of the different breeds, see how many of each there are of each of the breeds, and how to breed them. You can also breed rare traits into different breeds that aren't common/usual for that breed, like Thoroughbreds with paint markings or Belgians bred for racing.

Figure out what breeds you like the best

Everyone who loves horses has to have at least 1 favorite horse breed. To figure out what to breed, you can base it off of what breed(s) you like.

Other Things

Internet Safety

It's important for any of you who haven't yet been taught these things yet to know, remember, and follow the internet safety guidelines. Even teens and adults should try to remember and follow these guidelines.

Never do/say/post/ask these following things: post pictures/videos of yourself, post pictures/videos of people you know in real life without their permission, say your real name, video chat with a stranger, call a stranger, post your personal email anywhere where anyone can find it, posting your phone number, arrange a time and place to meet a stranger, arranging when to video call a stranger, arranging when to call a stranger, posting your address, and telling what school you go to.

These following are okay to post/say: name of pets, favorites, what instrument you play, favorite ice cream flavor, and anything else similar to those things.

I don't mean to scare you to death but the truth is that not all strangers you've only met online are actually good people (online predators). There are such people out there in our world who are able to use the internet to try to find out as much personal stuff about others as they can (They may act like you can trust them and that they understand you completely but that doesn't mean that they couldn't be an online predator that's trying to gain your trust so that you tell them about your personal details) and use that to harm those other people. So please protect yourself and all other people you know in person!

Protecting Your Account(s)

Things you should avoid doing: sharing accounts with anyone, sharing passwords, letting anyone have access into your account.

What to do if you've had suspicious activity on your account: change your password immediately. If you can't log into your account, you can get help from finding the "Help Me" button at the bottom left of the page of the game and telling the admins through that.

Protecting your account(s) can prevent unwanted sales, studs, and other unwanted stuff from happening to your account.

Other Rules

No posting and/or chatting on the chat about politics and/or religions (You can state what religion you are and what your denomination though). The reason behind this is to prevent unnecessary drama on this game and to not offend other players. Refusing to follow this can result in you being put into the COPPA restrictions (aka, not being able to post on the forums and/or get onto chat).

No trolling and/or instigating drama/trouble (Very similar things). Drama and trouble only makes the game less fun for everyone so please don't go looking to start drama/trouble. Refusing to follow this can result in you being put into the COPPA restrictions.

No scamming others (Example of scamming: Player #1 "promising" to buy Player #2 PT and having Player #2 pay for the PT but then they never give the PT). This is a real game rule and you shouldn't be scamming regardless of whether the rules say you can or not. Scamming others will get you banned from the game.

No holding horses for ransom (Example of holding a horse for ransom: Player #1 accidentally sells Player #2 a horse and Player #2 refuses to give the horse back unless Player #1 gives into their demands). This is another real game rule and like with scamming, you shouldn't be holding horses for ransom.

Do not enter more than 2 accounts into the same competition that only allows 1 horse entered per account. This is a real game rule and is considered cheating, so don't do it.

Be respectful, kind, understanding/considerate, and keep everything appropriate (No cussing, swearing, no inappropriate language, no inappropriate videos, no inappropriate images, etc.). Pretty much all problems/drama can be avoided, which means we all will have more fun on the game, if we all are respectful, kind, understanding/considerate, and keep everything appropriate. Also all drama issues can be resolved quickly and peacefully if everyone does this.

No spamming, this includes chat, sale ads, stud ads, etc., and not just in the forums. Here's an example of spamming: "hihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihihi". Please do not do this as it takes up a ton of space that can be used for other useful things and is also very annoying to some.

Adding Buildings and Decorations to your farm

You can buy barns, pastures, and other decorations in the Farm Building (Menu, Market, and Farm Building) to add to your farm.

Clarifications on Issues

Horse is stolen when sent to training: When sending a horse to a player to train, board, champ, or age, you can also be risking that they player may keep the horse instead of doing what they were told to do. In this case, unfortunately, they have the horse in their possession and therefore they are allowed to do whatever they wish with the horse. If this happens to you, you can try to offer money to get the horse back but you can't do much in this situation. However, you can warn other players about this. The admins can't force the player to give the horse back to the original owner.

Accidental Sales: If some player buys a horse that was meant for someone else, they have the horse in their possession and therefore they are allowed to do whatever they wish with the horse. You may ask to see if they'll sell the horse or try to trade but if they refuse, then you can't get the horse back. The admins can't force the player to give the horse back to the original owner.

Private Studs: This can be a very common situation. Even if you put "private stud" everywhere, not all players see it and/or they just ignore the fact that the horse is a private stud only. First, to prevent this from happening, you can do one of the following things: sell the horse to the player (if you know that you can trust that player) to breed the horse and then send the horse back to you, meet on chat and privately send the horse's link (put the horse up for stud only for as long as the player needs), or when the stud isn't in use then put the price up extremely high. You can also help prevent the problems by being kind and polite by asking the owner of the private stud and getting their permission before just going ahead and using the private stud. Next, what you can do: Kindly ask the player to give you the foals (they are allowed to say no), offer to buy the foals, ask the player kindly to rehome the foals, trade for the foals. Remember: they own the foals so they technically are allowed to do whatever they wish with the foals. If they still refuse, then you can't do anything else and neither can an admin do anything about it and you just have to let it go.

Username Changing

How do I change my username?: You can't manually change your own username BUT an admin can. You have to either private message or ping an admin on the Official Name Change Thread, Tom or larissar, and ask them to change your username. The username must be one that is both appropriate and hasn't already been used.

Using your money wisely

Make sure that you don't spend tons of money on horses that you don't need and/or use without having a good way of earning back money (good ways of earning money: studs, sales, entering contests, grinders, training other players' horses, and entering your horses in competitions). Some players give away free grinders for new players and/or give new players money BUT DO NOT rely on this as your best way of income of money. Not all players will be that willing to give out free grinders and/or money.

Avatars

Where do you see an avatar?: You usually see a player's avatar in the forums or on their profile if they have an avatar.

How do I edit my avatar?: First go to Menu, Forum Settings, Profile, and then Edit Avatar. The avatar you set has to be no bigger than 90 pixels by 90 pixels. To add your avatar, you must first find a picture that is the correct size. Then you find a url/link that will send you directly to the picture (to do it on a computer or laptop, you right click on the image and then click on "Open image in new tab". It should open a new tab with only the picture showing. You use the url/link of that tab for the link for the avatar).

How do I shorten the url/link?: I like to use the Bitly URL Shortener but you can use any website that shortens the url/link.

How do I use an image from my computer?: First of all, make sure that the image follows the internet safety guidelines. To get a url for the image, you can upload the image on Imgur. Then you find the url/link that will send you directly to the picture.

Can I change the looks of the person standing beside my horses?: No, you can't. This has been suggested by several players but you can't change the person's looks.

FAQ

I've seen a few horses that say they're a breed, but when I evaluate them it says N/A. What does this mean? Bad genetics?

The breed evaluation compares your horse to other horses of the same breed. It's similar to how a club/registry in real life will evaluate the horse to see if the horse fits the evaluation of it's breed. However, this doesn't mean the horse has bad genetics when their evaluation is N/A though you can breed horses to have a better evaluation. A N/A breed evaluation doesn't mean bad genetics.

I have no money, and I can't post on forums or go in chat.

You can try to find grinders, sell your horses, put your horses up for stud, compete your horses, and enter your horses in local shows.

How do you get a champion or make your horse one?

You have to enter your horse in competitions (there are two ways to get to the competition page. One by going to Menu, Competitions, and Upcoming Competitions.
