It is important to me to support my students in their individual interaction with and reflection on the course contents.
I want to create learning materials that work for and with learners' needs. My classroom is a space where everyone is welcome to learn, interaction is prioritized, and students' curiosity about linguistics has room to grow.
In September 2021 I successfully completed the Higher Education Didactic Certificate of the Center for Higher Education Didactics Baden-Württemberg. In the course of this didactical training, I attended, among others, the following courses:
MA-20-10: Fit for teaching – Higher education didactical basics 1 + 2
Teaching supervision and collegial practical councelling
MA-20-12: Enriching classroom teaching with digital resources and tools.
S-20-13: Supervising termpapers and theses – learner appropriate and suitable for every-day application
TÜ-20-16: Planning and leading skill-based and fair oral exams
HO-20-17: Utilizing (student) peer-feedback in the classroom
PHFR-20-20: Participant orientation and animating learning and teaching methods in university teaching
HD-20-25: Didactical reduction – focussing on substance in a time crunch
In my final project, I reworked the seminar „Introduction to Diachronic Linguistics“ as an inverted classroom course. I aimed to refocus the class contents and to make more time for student interaction and application tasks with added methods to encourage collaborative learning. With this format I also achieved applicability for online and live classroom teaching and a balance between guided and self-guided learning options. Evaluation of this concept showed increased student satisfaction with learning experience, materials and course structure in the first round and has opened up further points for improvement of this concept.
