A talk on Building Robust Deep Neural Networks: Recent Advances and Efficient Training Techniques by Prof. Venkatesh Babu

Prof. R. Venkatesh Babu is a professor at the Dept. of Computational and Data Sciences (CDS), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. His research interests include Computer Vision and Deep Learning. He and his lab has published multiple papers in the top venues like CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACMMM, AAAI, etc. He has published around 60 A* publications in the last 5 years. He is a recipient of the SERB Star (2020) and Sathish Dhawan Young Engineer awards (2019). He served as a Program Chair of the AIML-Systems 2023 conference. He serves as an associate editor for Pattern Recognition and area editor for CVIU journals. He has also served as an area chair for the following conferences: CVPR, AAAI, NeurIPS, ICCV, WACV, ACML, AISTATS, and ACML.

A talk on Summarization Systems in NLP by Dr. Sriparna Saha

Dr. Sriparna Saha is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, India. Her name is included in the list of eight leading women scientists in the area of AI in India published by INDIAai in year 2021. She has authored or co-authored more than 290 papers and a book. Her current research interests include deep learning, natural language processing, machine learning, information extraction, text mining, bioinformatics and multiobjective optimization. She is also a senior member of IEEE. She is the recipient of the Google India Women in Engineering Award, 2008, NASI YOUNG SCIENTIST PLATINUM JUBILEE AWARD 2016, BIRD Award 2016, IEI Young Engineers' Award 2016, SERB WOMEN IN EXCELLENCE AWARD 2018 and SERB Early Career Research Award 2018. She is also the recipient of DUO-India fellowship 2020. 

An interview with Geetha Kannan : Founder and CEO - Wequity

WiCS had an interesting conversation with Geetha Kannan, the Founder and CEO of Wequity for Women in Technology. She is a versatile entrepreneurial leader and a pioneer for the Women in IT movement in India. With over 30 years of global experience spanning business, technology and people, her focus has always been to raise the bar, build teamwork and drive far-reaching impact. She was the India Head and Managing Director of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology before which she was the head of HR at ANZ Bank.

Drishti, and Manognya from WiCS took the opportunity to have an insightful discussion on various ideas and thoughts on tech and Drishti took an interview with Geetha to learn about Wequity and other initiatives.

Gender Question in Science Education and Research

A panel discussion on The Gender Question in Science, Education and Research organised jointly by WiCS and Chinta Bar by Dr. Prajval Shastri and Dr. Vineeta Bal.

Formerly at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru and is the Chair of Gender in Physics Working Group of the Indian Physics Association.

Dr. Vineeta Bal, IISER Pune & National Institute of Immunology.

She was a member of the Prime Minister's Taskforce on Women in Science.

Computing for Social Good - Panel Discussion

Women in Computer Science, IIT Madras presents to you an insightful panel discussion on 'Computing for Social Good'.

Sankalpa Venkatraghavan : Sankalpa is a 4th year undergraduate student in the bio engineering dual degree program with a specialization in computational biology. She's interested in the computational modelling of complex biological systems, particularly those involved in embryonic development.

Gargi Mitra : Gargi is a senior PhD. student at IIT Madras working in the area of network security and privacy. Her research interests revolve around identifying privacy risks in Internet communications and designing privacy-preserving communication protocols.

Sareena K P : Sareena is a PhD scholar at the IIT Madras. She works in the area of network security, with a focus on building novel defence strategies against malware and cyber-attacks. She has 9+ years of industry experience at Hewlett-Packard, Bangalore, and Identive Technologies, Chennai, where she was involved in the development of embedded products and system software for contactless access control and payment systems.

Moderator - Manognya P K : Manognya is a final year B.Tech student majoring in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computing. Her interests are in software engineering, networks, and systems security. She is a former Microsoft intern, currently heading the Women in Computer Science community at IIT Madras.

Introduction to Natural Language Processing

Sowmya is a PhD alumnus of IIT -M. She is from the first direct PhD batch at IIT-M. Her research interests include natural language processing (NLP), knowledge representation and fairness in AI. Currently she's pursuing a postdoc at L3S Research Center, Germany where she's working in the intersection of bio-informatics and NLP.

Ruby On Rails Workshop + Talk by Swaati K.

Swaathi is the Co-founder of Skcript and serves as the Chief Technology Officer of the company. Being a believer of Women in Technology, she's been proving it by building tech communities crafted for women over the past few years with big names like Google and Twitter. Swaathi is also an open source contributor, most notable for the large web framework called Ruby On Rails. She has been interviewed by the Indian Startup Show, Chaaipani, Womens Web, YourStory and much more.

Participants are requested to bring their laptops, preferably with Rails installed.
