This video illustrates why I apply game-based learning in my classroom.
The videos below are examples of Educational Game introduction videos created using iMovie and hosted on YouTube. The Cold War game was created by Louis Pienaar and Leigh Morrison for Parklands education college.
African Dragons was created by Shelanna Sturgess for Crawford College La Lucia. African Dragons is hosted on Google Sites and teaches students visual arts and design in an entrepreneurial way. The students earn points for completing different assessment tasks. The final task is pitching an African Fashion Business to a panel of 'venture capitalists'. The students have the opportunity to win funding for their business.
Adapting existing games or TV Shows is another strategy teachers can used to increase the fun factor in their classrooms. For example I have adapted Scramble and Pictionary. For examples on how I am adapting these games to teach creative process see http://bit.ly/pictionarysks and http://bit.ly/scrabblesks
Judge & Jury is a game I am creating to teach critical thinking. Here's how to play - http://bit.ly/judgejury
