Preamble:
We the students in The Woodworking Honor Society, do hereby uphold the mission to promote wood tech education and guidance for all individuals, to form high regards for all persons pursuing knowledge in the art of woodworking; to encourage cooperation and a warm environment among all; and to express the value of determination to achieve better outcomes.
Background:
The Woodworking Honors Society was established in 2019. It is an organization incorporated in the State of New Jersey. As the premier professional honors group for technology education The Woodworking Honors Society has provided honor and distinction to members and individuals throughout the world. The Woodworking Honors Society was founded under the leadership of Daniel J. DellaPietro, a renowned and awarded teacher at Marlboro High School. Its headquarters were in B 109, B-Wing, of Marlboro High School. Many of DellaPietro’s customs, traditions, and values remain at the core of Woodworking Honors Society’s goal.
Identity
Name: The organization shall be known as the Woodworking Honor Society.
Derivation of Name: The reason for the name, Woodworking Honors Society, is this was created off a very meaningful purpose. This was never meant to be a club or anything less than an Honor Society. This society was formed from a woodworking teacher and his students. The Honors Society solely decomposes the art of Woodworking.
Purpose and Objective Of Woodworking Honor Society:
Purpose: The purpose of Woodworking Honor Society is to (a) inspire, mold and help create good hearted and productive members of society through the teaching of trade skills, (b) emphasize the traditions and values of woodworking, and © promote the idea of woodworking to the members and the community. The Woodworking Honor Society is not an honor society solely based on achieving high academic success.
Objective:
To help train high school students for the real world by teaching them the skills they need to be productive member of society.
To provide students with the knowledge of trade skills along with business skills.
To fundraise to help offset the cost of the trade industry in the education field. This includes any material or equipment that the Woodworking Honor Society uses or anything for the shop that the Woodworking Honor Society uses as their home base.
The Woodworking Honor Society advisor controls the allocation and spending of the money.
To fundraise for any Woodworking Honor Society approved charity.
This can include the Woodworking Honor Society foundation grants.
Motto, Colors, and Meaning of WHS
Motto:
We build more than projects. We build people.
Colors:
Black is for wisdom, constancy and prudence
White is for truth, sincerity, peace, innocence and purity.
Meaning:
The Woodworking Honor Society symbol is made up of many elements that has significant to the founding chapter.
The mustang is the mascot for Marlboro High School where the Woodworking Honor Society was founded. Also strength, loyalty and speed.
The symbol looks like an old family crest because the Woodworking Honor Society should function as a family.
The hammers represent hand tools and the skills needed to use them. Also that we are strong.
The saw blade is for the machines that we use.
The pine tree is for the fact that at Marlboro High School’s woodshop uses pine as its main lumber for projects. Also, pine trees grow fast and tall, like our members with their skills. Lastly it represents wisdom and longevity.
The laser engraver symbol is for that we embrace new technology.
Character of a Woodworking Honor Society member:

You will stay out of trouble in and out of school.

Actions speak louder than words. You lead by example and you are not all talk and no do.
How to be a member of Woodworking Honor Society:
You will need to apply to the Woodworking Honor Society by completing all necessary forms.
You need to be recommended and in good standing with Technology Education teachers and the Woodworking Honor Society advisor.
You need to have completed at least 1 year of woodworking class
If currently in your 1st year, you will need a special exemption from the Woodworking Honor Society advisor.
High academic performance is not a must but it helps. You must be in good standings with all teachers with your grades.
If you struggle in a class but you are trying your best to improve, you can be in the Woodworking Honor Society. As long as your character in class is in line with the Woodworking Honor Society values. The Woodworking Honor Society advisor may contact the teacher of the class that you are struggling in to check in on your grades and charter.
You need to embody the Woodworking Honor Society member characteristics.
Participation is expected when it comes to meeting, fundraising and volunteer work.
Meetings:
Woodworking Honor Society meetings are set by the Woodworking Honor Society advisor.
There will be 1 meeting per month minimum. However, during a fundraiser, there may be multiple meetings per week.
If you cannot make it to meetings after school you must speak to the Woodworking Honor Society advisor prior to the meeting
If you cannot make it to multiple Woodworking Honor Society meetings due to sports, work, family obligations, other clubs or schoolwork you need to talk to the Woodworking Honor Society advisor. Based on your situation the Woodworking Honor Society advisor may exempt you from the after school meetings. However, you will have to make up the meetings during school hours.
Fundraising:
All members are expected to participate in all Woodworking Honor Society fundraising events.
Members can participate in a number of different ways when fundraising. You can be a part of the sales team, manufacturing team, marketing team, etc. You do not have to be a part of every aspect but you will have a specialized job, just like in industry.
The Woodworking Honor Society advisor must approve all fundraising events.
If a fundraising event involves a charity, the donation to the charity will be in the Woodworking Honor Society.
If donation is not in the Woodworking Honor Society name, the Woodworking Honor Society advisor must approve it.
Classification of Members: There are 2 levels of members, apprentices and honorable woodworkers.
Apprentices: Pertains to the joining members.
Honorable Woodworkers: Pertains to those members that have a seat on the Executive Board
Selection of Executive Board and Titles:
The only mandatory position for the Executive Board is the advisor.
The chain of command for the Woodworking Honor Society is decided per chapter by the Advisor (Grand Poobah).
The Woodworking Honor Society advisor decides if there is a vote for positions of if he/she wants to appoint the positions.
Some positions are the President (Honorable Basileus), Vice-President (Texnikh), Secretary (Fylakas). These are not mandatory for the executive board. Some of these positions can be combined or more can be created.
Responsibilities of Members
Woodworking Honor Society executive board
Advisor- Grand Poobah
The Advisor should regularly call and run meetings and help with handling day-to-day operations. He will be responsible for handling all paperwork. The advisor oversees the whole chapter and makes executive decisions about the chapter. The Advisor will help to appoint all executive members.
President- Honorable Basileus
The president shall help the advisor with completing the necessary tasks to run the chapter of the Honor Society. He makes sure everything is running smoothly and that all members are up-to-date on events and meetings. Their job is to come up with ideas for community events and fundraisers.
Vice President – Texnikh
The Vice President shall assume the role of President if the President is absent. The Vice President shall also assist with the responsibilities of the President and Advisor.
Secretary – Fylakas
The Secretary shall record all important information from meetings and other events,. They shall take minutes and attendance for all meetings and events. If they are absent they shall give the responsibility to a fellow member.
General Members – Apprentice
The job of the general members is to be active and proper when at meetings and events. They will assume jobs throughout the time of WHS events and will be expected to complete the task at hand.They will be responsible for coming up with ideas, and helping whenever available.
