History:
The Woodworking Honors Society was established in 2019. It is an organization incorporated in the State of New Jersey. As the premier professional honors group for technology education The Woodworking Honors Society has provided honor and distinction to members and individuals throughout the world. The Woodworking Honors Society was founded under the leadership of Daniel J. DellaPietro, a renowned and awarded teacher at Marlboro High School. Its headquarters were in B 109, B-Wing, of Marlboro High School. Many of DellaPietro’s customs, traditions, and values remain at the core of Woodworking Honors Society’s goal.
The Purpose:
The purpose of Woodworking Honor Society is to (a) inspire, mold and help create good hearted and productive members of society through the teaching of trade skills, (b) emphasize the traditions and values of woodworking, and (c) promote the idea of woodworking to the members and the community. The Woodworking Honor Society is not an honor society solely based on achieving high academic success.
Objective:
To help train high school students for the real world by teaching them the skills they need to be productive member of society.
To provide students with the knowledge of trade skills along with business skills.
To fundraise to help offset the cost of the trade industry in the education field. This includes any material or equipment that the Woodworking Honor Society uses or anything for the shop that the Woodworking Honor Society uses as their home base.
The Woodworking Honor Society advisor controls the allocation and spending of the money.
To fundraise for any Woodworking Honor Society approved charity.
This can include the Woodworking Honor Society foundation grants.
Motto, Colors, and Meaning of WHS
Motto:
We build more than projects. We build people.
Colors:
Black is for wisdom, constancy and prudence
White is for truth, sincerity, peace, innocence and purity.
Meaning:
The Woodworking Honor Society symbol is made up of many elements that has significant to the founding chapter.
The mustang is the mascot for Marlboro High School where the Woodworking Honor Society was founded. Also strength, loyalty and speed.
The symbol looks like an old family crest because the Woodworking Honor Society should function as a family.
The hammers represent hand tools and the skills needed to use them. Also that we are strong.
The saw blade is for the machines that we use.
The pine tree is for the fact that at Marlboro High School’s woodshop uses pine as its main lumber for projects. Also, pine trees grow fast and tall, like our members with their skills. Lastly it represents wisdom and longevity.
The laser engraver symbol is for that we embrace new technology.
