Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions Virtual Parent Education and Support Session

Monday, February 8, 2021 6:30 p.m.

SPACE helps parents learn supportive ways to respond to their child’s anxiety and communicate their confidence in their ability to cope with their feelings. SPACE is conducted with the parents, not the child, thus bypassing the obstacle of the child’s willingness to attend and/or practice newly learned skills. Over the course of several months, parents work with a therapist to: • Identify ways in which accommodating behaviors may be perpetuating their child’s symptoms.

• Develop a plan to reduce these accommodations.

• Gain problem-solving strategies for responding to their child’s reactions to the changes.

Parents, guardians and caregivers of students ranging from preschool to high school are welcome to attend.

The Westlake City Schools in partnership with the Westlake Council of PTAs will be hosting this session on Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

football scholarship opportunity!

Fields of Learning (www.fieldsoflearning.org) is pleased to announce the launch of our 2021 Scholarship Program. We began in 2004 with a single award, and have expanded our program to offer five $1000 scholarships for 2021.

not limited to only football players

Our scholarships are awarded based on an essay contest where students from high schools, primarily in Ohio, submit essays of between 500 and 1500 words with the theme being “Something I learned related to high school football.”

It is not in any way limited to football players, and we have had almost equal numbers of boys and girls submit essays and win awards over the years. The website provides complete instructions including how the essays will be judged and where to send emails or hard copies. The deadline for submitting essays this year is March 31, 2021.

If you have any questions, ideas, or comments, please email us at admin@fieldsoflearning.org or call us at 440-256-3757.

I'm starting a project to help the homeless population in the Cleveland area by making blankets out of plastic bags since winters here can get very cold. If you're interested in helping, you can donate any plastic bags to the main office, or even participate in making the blankets. If you're interested in helping with the blankets, please send me an email at xi340361@mywlake.org with what times you'd be available for a meeting. I'll also add your name to a list so I can figure out how to distribute any plastic bags collected. As for plastic bags, there will be a labeled box in the main office for anyone who would like to drop them off. Please consider lending a hand, whether it's helping out with making the blankets or simply just donating some plastic bags, as this could help a lot of people!
