Comrades of the Vigil! We have no doubt some of you have already dug in with the website and read some of the episodes up for grabs. Maybe you binged the entire first half of The Havershire Incidents already, in which case we're impressed! Look alive, Porter: here's a peek at what's coming in the next four months.
On the last Friday of every month, readers can expect a new SERIES episode (they're effectively chapters, but in keeping with the pulp serial adventure theme we're calling them "episodes"--the author also found it helpful on her ADHD not to think of the project as a novel length undertaking, because she's intelligent like that) to premier on the website. The first of these, entitled "Attack of the Prawns", will release May 26, 2023. After that, four more full-fledged episodes and an epilogue minisode will roll out until the end of August, after which the team will be taking an end of season hiatus for planning, recuperating, reloading, and presenting offerings to the Things Better Left Unseen--erm, returning to studies.
You'll also get a themed CODEX update and Insta content prior to the new episode's release that give some relevant background foreshadowing what to expect.
Every Tuesday and Thursday during a SERIES run, short episode excerpts will get posted to Insta. You already know these as the posts narrated in character as a Royal Coalition propagandist. Wednesdays give us a respite from this with lore posts featuring a Porter hijacker. Fridays will be a variety of behind the scenes features with author and illustrator bios, commentary and media recommendations. We might sneak a character mix or two in there for the readers who like a little mood music while they slosh their faces in our piquant trough of wordslime.
We still don't have a tentative release date for our art showcase section, the OBSERVATORY. This is still being negotiated between the author and illustrator. We'll keep you posted and release an official statement with a date/time/what to expect as soon as this is worked out.
And then there's the JOURNAL (you are here!). It will be updated whenever we feel it's particularly pertinent or just of interest and is more of an informal commentary. You can generally expect updates after a major turning point narratively or if the author just decides to infodump at you.
We're so glad you're joining us for this journey, Porter!
Greetings, comrades! We're so happy you could join us for this journey into Midlandia and we thank you for stopping by. The JOURNAL section you find yourself in will be an ongoing little author development blog I'll just sort of post to whenever, completely optional reading but possibly a fun spot to plug media recommendations and give behind-the-scenes trivia. Just a few quick tentacle-shaped words to kick things off:
While the SERIES sections (each separated by series title--think of each like its own story arc) contain the actual Porter Society narrative, I strongly recommend checking out the CODEX first. It's essentially a guide to all things Midlandia and will likely make the universe easier to follow. This has been a hotly requested feature among my writer groups (including the lovely RELIQUARY who I highly recommend checking out, I couldn't have done this without them) and I hope it makes the reading experience more fluid.
Please consult the BEFORE WE BEGIN statement before reading. It is a general purpose content warning and guide of which chapters to avoid due to objectionable theme content. Alternatively, if you're like me, you can just use this to speedrun straight to the smutty bits.
The OBSERVATORY section will go live when illustrations start rolling off the presses. My creative compatriot/dear brother "Gulch" is currently wrapping up a particularly egregious job posting and will be with us soon...
This website and the content on it are by no means exhaustive nor are they particularly perfect. Think of this as an experiment on my part in trying to expand my craft and the spaces it occupies. I am dipping my toes in and my priority is having fun. I super value your feedback and hope this project can learn and grow as we build a community of grimy little gay dieselpunks!
Finally, have fun!
A colossal thank you to my brother/illustrator Gulch, my family, Barry, Vinnie (the real life Porter Vinze!), Mel, Nico, The Reliquary Team, and everyone else who believed in me and made it easier to let joy in. Because of you, I could really bask in the delight of bringing Midlandia to life and stay resolute that it was a story worth telling. You are all true comrades of the Vigil and I suspect Abe would be slightly less crotchety towards you.
FOR THE VIGIL!
