During my practicum in NUR 6348: Practicum in Health Problems, I engaged in multiple virtual simulation scenarios using the vSim platform. This experience played a key role in refreshing my clinical knowledge and strengthening my critical thinking and decision-making skills.
The vSim modules exposed me to diverse patient care scenarios across various specialties, including pediatrics, maternity, and mental health, areas in which I had limited direct clinical experience due to my professional background in oncology. Each simulation offered the opportunity to assess patients, prioritize care, and apply evidence-based interventions in a safe, reflective learning environment.
The simulations had immediate feedback and rationales for actions taken, which allowed me to self-assess and identify areas for improvement. This process helped reinforce my clinical judgment and build confidence in managing unfamiliar patient populations.
Key Benefits of vSim Experience:
- Enhanced clinical reasoning and prioritization of care
- Increased exposure to patient populations outside of my primary specialty
- Improved comfort level with maternity, pediatric, and mental health nursing scenarios
- Reinforced application of evidence-based practices through guided feedback
Overall, the vSim experience allowed me to strengthen my skills as both a nurse and an educator, and provided valuable tools to support future simulation-based teaching strategies in nursing education.
