Cadets,
I am C/LCDR Temple and I will be your commanding officer for the 2024-2025 school year. This will be my fourth year in the unit. I am the Color guard, Orienteering, and the Drill team commander.
As your new CO, it is my job to relay commands and orders from the Senior Naval Science Instructor and the Naval Science Instructor to the staff officers and the cadets, while also taking and creating new ideas to improve the unit and implementing them. The staff officers may lead, but the ones who make change in the unit and bring success to the unit are the cadets. You all are the ones that make the unit run and without you, this unit would be nothing. We have an amazing foundation to build upon and I intend to make it an amazing year.
I firmly believe that the meat of the unit is in our teams and extracurricular activities. There is something for everyone in the unit, especially in the teams. I encourage all cadets to join a team whether it is the CyberPatriot, Academic, Color guard, Drill, Air rifle, Orienteering, or Drone team. I also encourage all cadets to participate in orientation trips, community service, and all of the events that the unit hosts. You get what you put into the unit. If you put in a lot you will succeed greatly.
I expect all cadets to be passing their classes because academics come first. Before you can participate in all the field trips the unit takes throughout the year, you need to be passing all your classes. If you need help you have cadets and instructors willing to help you, so use your resources. I also expect all cadets to get promoted at least once this year. If you need help you have squad leaders and platoon commanders that are there to help - use them. Another big part of the unit is community service. Not only should cadets be doing unit-organized events but also individual community service not hosted by the unit. This will help get your hours for promotion cards next year and there is no better feeling than helping your community. The main mission of this program is creating good citizens and a big part of that is helping your community.
Cadets, remember that our success depends on your effort, dedication, and commitment to this program. Look in the mirror and see the potential that we see in you.
Respectfully,
Cameron Temple
