Sarkodie's collaborative album recorded with Jayso, titled T.M.G, earned him an award at the 2013 4Syte TV Music Video Awards, as well as a nomination at the 2013 Ghana Music Awards. He won Best African Act at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. The release of Sarkology in 2014 earned Sarkodie several awards, including four Ghana Music Awards, one MTV Africa Music Award, one Independent Music Award, four 4syte TV Music Video Awards, one Headies Award, and one Ghana Music Honor. He also received a nomination at the 2014 BET Awards and was nominated four times at the 2014 World Music Awards. Sarkodie won Best West African Act at the 2013 Caribbean American and African Nations Music Awards. Moreover, he won Best Rap Act at the 2014 African Muzik Magazine Awards. He was honoured by the organizers of the Afrobeats Music Awards for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of African music globally. Ebenezxar was born to Miss Juliet Gladys Osafo and Mr Fred K. Annor on 17 April 1987, in a town called Kukurantumi-Akim in the Eastern Region of Ghana and his early days in school began at Asafo-Akim and later on headed to the Ofori Panin Senior High School where he studied Visual Arts. At Ofori Panin Senior High School, Xbills Ebenezer won the Best Visual Arts student in his class for a couple of times. He is the fifth born of his parents among six children, hence, the rod was never spared anytime he flawed. Inspired by the colorful and artistic nature of the Michael Jackson culture during his high school days, he began singing to beats and miming to songs as well as dreaming to create fictional movies in the future which could be as wild as, and more horrible than those of Michael Jackson. Towards this end, I will adopt a double focus on gospel music as media content as well as congregational performance practice. [End Page 102] Analytically, my argument draws on both the close reading of selected gospel music videos,2 as well as ethnographic data that emerged from my ongoing research in Accra and elsewhere in southern Ghana since 2006.
