My whole life I have been referred to as a "New Yorker". It is something I have always been proud of and a large part of my identity. Despite being so comfortable with these descriptors I often struggle to convey what these two words mean. To be a "New Yorker" is such a vague term that encapsulates a large and diverse group of people. When I was deciding my project I knew I wanted to do something that felt personal and coordinated with my identity. As I was brainstorming it was hard for me to find a way to display what being a "New Yorker" really meant to me. As I previously stated the word "New Yorker '' doesn't only apply to me, so I have decided the best way to encapsulate the meaning was to ask various people of their definition. Once I got this idea down, I knew the best way to go about it was interviewing people I met and asking for their opinions. The main audience of this film is supposed to be people who don’t consider themselves New Yorkers and people who do. For New Yorkers this film is supposed to help us interpret these words we are comfortable with and know so well. While for non-New Yorkers it can help them understand what being a New Yorker means. For this film I interviewed New Yorkers and people who don’t consider themselves New Yorkers to convey the meaning of this film.
